CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE BETRAYAL When last they met, Melanka’s parting comment to Liam and Sean had been, “We have a much, much better understanding of what we’re up against.” She’d been wrong! She had no idea how deeply the tentacles of corruption had dug into Anotas-Deithe. She was about to find out. After hours of stops and starts, jukes and feints, Althea, Egan, and their driver finally arrived at the bottom of the mountain where they would leave the car. The “road” to the Lodge was far too rough for a highway vehicle. They would travel the rest of the way in the enclosed Rough-Terrain-Vehicle that was parked in a locked garage on a small graveled parking lot. Sitting atop a ridge overlooking a shallow north-south canyon, the Lodge was nestled in a stand of enormous old-growth conifers.
