Chapter Twenty-Seven Twenty-five young ladies sat in a row behind tables placed end-to-end where an equal number of neatly ribboned white boxes sat waiting. We were in the dining hall at William Hargrove Boarding School. There were twenty-seven cadets from Octavia Pompeii Academy in freshly washed and ironed uniforms. Liz and I would only watch the bidding on the box suppers, but we’d definitely participate in the dancing, if asked. Behind us, seated in folding wooden chairs, were a dozen chaperones.
