Chapter Twenty-Nine
We arrived on the outskirts of Norfolk, Virginia, on April 12, 1927, for the Chesapeake Bay Regional Tennis Tournament. It was a beautiful spring day, with only a few puffy clouds, like frosted cotton candy, drifting across the cobalt blue.
Mr. Ralph Whimsley, the tennis professional Miss Pompeii had hired a month earlier, not only spent time with all the players at our academy in preparation for the tournament, he also traveled to the other schools sending teams to the Norfolk tournament.
We were surprised to learn Bay Stream Military Academy had entered ten players. That could be interesting.
