The hum of hospital machines filled the silence of the night.
Inside the patient’s room, the doctors were fighting against time.
John was lying on the bed.
His face was pale and weak.
His body was exhausted from the injuries, blood loss, and all the suffering he had endured that day.
“His blood level has dropped too much.”
“We need to give him a transfusion immediately.”
The doctors were doing everything they could.
Every second mattered.
Outside the room...
Zelishi stood there silently.
His hands still carried traces of the blood of a man whose name he had not even known a few minutes earlier.
He was used to seeing people go through difficult situations.
As a journalist, he had witnessed a lot of pain.
But this man was different.
When he found him lying on the road, his eyes had been closed.
But even while unconscious...
He was still holding onto one thing.
His family’s names.
“Johana...”
“Amara...”
Those were the words Zelishi had heard before he passed out.
Zelishi wondered:
“What kind of person fights so hard to return to his loved ones?”
His phone suddenly started ringing.
The sound pulled him out of his thoughts.
He looked at the name appearing on the screen.
His heart changed.
It was his boss.
For a few seconds, he hesitated before answering.
Then he picked up.
“Yes?”
A man’s voice came from the other side.
“Where are you?”
“I’m on my assignment.”
“I don’t have time for many explanations.”
Zelishi went silent.
He knew that voice.
It was the voice of someone who did not like being questioned.
“There is a new job.”
“And it is bigger than anything you have ever done before.”
Zelishi frowned.
“What kind of job?”
“Don’t ask too many questions.”
“You will check the information that will be sent to you.”
A brief silence followed.
Then the man continued.
“One person needs to be removed.”
Zelishi took a deep breath.
Although he had done many different kinds of work, he knew the world he lived in was not an easy one.
“How much is the payment?”
The question came out before he even thought about it.
The voice answered slowly.
“Ten million dollars.”
Zelishi remained silent.
That was not ordinary money.
It was the kind of amount that could change his life.
His mother’s life.
His younger sibling’s life.
But still...
His eyes moved toward the door of the room where John was being treated.
“You’ll send me a picture.”
His phone rang again.
A message had arrived.
He opened it.
A picture appeared.
For a second...
His entire body froze.
He stopped breathing.
He couldn’t move.
He brought the phone closer.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
The person in the picture...
Was the exact same person lying inside the hospital room.
John.
The man he had saved only minutes ago.
The man he had carried onto his motorcycle.
The man who would have died if he had not arrived there.
Zelishi slowly lowered the phone.
His eyes moved back to the hospital room door.
“This is impossible...”
He whispered.
His boss’s voice came through the phone again.
“Did you see the picture?”
Zelishi did not answer immediately.
“Yes.”
“Don’t be late.”
“This man must not survive.”
Zelishi’s heart began racing.
He looked one way.
The door of the room.
Then the other way.
His phone.
For the first time in a long while...
He found himself not knowing what to do.
Because his mission was clear.
But his heart remembered one thing.
This man was not just a picture on a phone.
He was a person who was still breathing because Zelishi had chosen to stop and help him.
Inside the room...
John slowly opened his eyes.
He still did not know that the person who had given him a second chance at life...
Was now the person who had to decide whether his life would continue or end there.
And outside the door...
Zelishi made a decision that would change everything.
