EpilogueThree weeks later… “Look!” Lucas had pulled up a chair to the kitchen counter where the incubator was, so he could watch the baby chicks peck holes in the eggs. One had pecked its way around the egg and was now pushing to get out. The entire egg shook. It was impossible to look away. Namir helped Ximena up on the chair next to Lucas. They’d already spent the entire morning looking at the eggs. Jinx had guard duty, so it was only Ximena and him…and Lucas, of course. There was a knock on the door, then it opened and quick footsteps neared the kitchen. “Did I miss anything?” Ty sounded out of breath as he put a swing arm desk lamp on the kitchen table and hurried over to them. “The first one is about to come out.” Lucas spoke absently, and Ty widened his eyes at Namir who grinned.
