Back Together

Melina was sitting at the counter in the kitchen and tapping away on her computer. I had a headache and my stomach felt like it was sloshing around with acid. The younger Mackenzie was there as well looking through the cabinets and making notes. “What are you doing Mackenzie?” He looked at me and I wished I could appreciate the fact that his shirt tugged and showed every bulge and muscle. His eyes were blue instead of hazel and his hair had more of a blonde tint to it. I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. He was watching me as if I were a snake that was about to strike at him. “I am taking notes of things we need to stock up, Eugenia was specific in what she wanted. Also, some of the cabinets need to be fixed. Plus I found a mouse nest in the pantry.” Melina and I both made a gagging noise and I dug through the fridge looking for something to settle my stomach. “There is Ginger tea in the blue pitcher, drink that it should help with nausea.” I shot Melina a thumbs up over the fridge door and Sullivan went back to rummaging in the cabinets. I dug out the pitcher and Sullivan set a glass in front of me. “Thanks, guys, ok Sullivan Mackenzie, can we start over? I apologize for being a b***h. Your brother kind of hurt me. I won’t bother you with the details.” I extended my hand out to him and he took it in his and shot me a lopsided grin. “No problem, and as for my brother, not much I can say to excuse his behavior. As for Claire, I wish I was there when your friend over there throat punched her.” I choked on my tea and stared at Melina who started chuckling. “You throat punched her?” She nodded and went back to typing away on her computer and then she let out a yell and fist-pumped the air. I almost dropped my glass and Sullivan grabbed it from me and placed it on the counter. We both stared at her as she started doing a weird dance. Jer came in with a turban wrapped around his head and my bathrobe on. “What is all that noise?” I glared at Jer who grabbed my glass of tea and swigged it and then made a face. He staggered over to the coffee maker and hit the button to turn it on. “Are you wearing my bathrobe?” I drank the rest of the tea and continued to stare at Jer’s back. “It fits me better anyways your boobs are too big.” I threw my slipper at his head and missed as it smacked into the cabinet. “Oh come on don’t break the door I will have to fix that.” Sighing I poured more tea and leaned against the counter, Jer was not a morning person like me, but we needed to get going on tracking down the truth and exposing Claire for the fraud she is. “Ok can you two focus? I need you to listen to what I found. Apparently, Claire does have a kid and he is about four years old.” I wasn’t sure how long she has been out of the picture, Daniel would know better than any of us. “That has to be utter shite, she did disappear about four years ago but we all knew she wasn’t pregnant. She was too busy trying to get a doctoral degree.” We all looked at the younger Mackenzie. He stared at us and shrugged. “I may have been out of the picture folks but I still follow the gossip and Uncle Felix is a gossip. If that kid is Mack’s then you’re never going to see my brother again. However, the chances of the kid being his are slim to none.” We continued to stare at him and Melina was grinning like a cat that ate the canary. “He has a point; anyone feel like going to England and doing some recon work.” Jer grunted and continued to glower at the coffee machine and I shrugged. Looking at Melina practically bouncing in on her feet I didn’t think she should be doing recon work with a baby ready to come. “Melina, you are not going to England, if anything happens to you or the baby Wuggie is going to beat me. Obviously, I shouldn’t go because someone has to babysit you. Alexei is tied up in court so that leaves Anna and the younger Mackenzie.” Jer sipped his coffee and made a face as he poured sugar into it. “Can you guys stop referring to me as the younger Mackenzie, I do have a name you know? You could call me Sullivan, Mackenzie, or Sully.” Melina was pouting and Jer could care less about what we were saying. “I can handle doing the recon work on my own though.” Sullivan narrowed his eyes at me and shook his head. “Knowing Claire, she probably has the kid stashed with her mother or with some of the unsavory characters she associates with. No, if Alexei isn’t going with you then I’m going with you.” I sighed; I wasn’t some stupid damsel in distress. I can handle myself in a fight, besides I could always take Angus with me as well. “I know that look babe, you are not going by yourself and it isn’t because you can’t handle yourself. I don’t need you going off all half-c****d and then getting into trouble. You can also take the dog with you but if you get into trouble the dog is going to attack someone and no.” My mouth dropped open as I stared at him. How the hell does he always know what I am thinking? “Close your mouth, you’re going to catch flies. I know what you are thinking because you are so damn transparent. Now take Sully with you and enjoy your mini vacation. Don’t do anything I would do.” I glowered at him and then rolled my eyes. “Sullivan, do you want to accompany me to England? Considering I seem to be unable to do this on my own.” He snorted at the sarcasm in my voice. Jer raised his coffee cup to me and walked over to where Melina was typing away at the computer again. “I’d love to, do you have any idea where we need to go?” We both looked at Melina who turned the computer around and showed us a picture of a young boy and there was an address in the email that was sent to her. “How were you able to get this information?” Sullivan seemed impressed and I was as well. Melina chuckled and smirked. “I have friends in low places, friends in high places, plus my dad used to be a detective.” I reached over and hugged Melina. She let out another giggle and I felt the baby kick against me as I hugged her close. “Looks like the kid likes you too! Ok fine, you two get packed and I will book your tickets.” I wanted to cry but repressed the urge to be weepy. I needed to get to the bottom of this. I didn’t care if Mack and I ever became an item. He did deserve to know the truth about whether he had a kid or not. “I’m so glad that she is on our side.” Sullivan was sipping his coffee and I snickered. “You sure you want to hang with us, Sully? We’re a pretty hardcore bunch here.” I smirked at him and he raised an eyebrow at me. “The badass, the fairy godmother, and killer over there? Hell yeah, I’m willing to hang with you guys. I’m not my brother and can’t replace him but I assure you I am much more fun than him.” We raised our glasses and air-toasted one another. I decided I shouldn’t be so hard on the younger Mackenzie because he shouldn’t have to pay for his brother’s mistakes. “You know why don’t you have an accent?” Melina was staring at him and he laughed again. “Because I was sent away and didn’t stay in Scotland, I still have it from time to time but I have been in the US and Australia most of my life.” We heard the front door open and Daniel walked in with Eugenia and Sinclair. I put my glass down on the counter and ran over to them and embraced them. “I missed you guys so much. Welcome home!” My family was complete again, Eugenia hugged back and Sinclair grunted but he was smiling. Now we just needed to see if Mack was going to stay in the harpy’s clutches or if we can free him.
