His eyes flew open. Someone was near. He looked over at Malia about to get up. Her eyes opened as well. “She’s coming. Someone is here though. A man. He’s in the kitchen…. waiting” he looked into his eyes
“Stay in here”
“No. I think he knows me” she said confused.
“Stay behind me” she got up and quickly threw on some panties some sweatpants and a t shirt. He threw on some jeans and a shirt. He opened the door to his room. He went into the dark living room. His eyes adjusted to the room. Without moon light shining through like it was in their room Malia couldn’t see anything. She grabbed the back of his shirt as a guide and he reached back and grabbed her hand.
“It’s about time you sensed something. I had to think about killing you. You need to train so you can sharpen your senses.” They rounded the corner to the kitchen. She knew that voice she couldn’t place it, but she definitely knew it. Quan turned the light on. She looked at the man his dark curly hair hung just above his eyes. Dressed in jeans a black leather jacket and black boots. He was Hispanic, with pronounced features. He had a helmet sitting on the counter away from the spot where just hours ago he f****d Malia.
“How did you get in here?” Quan asked.
“Of all questions you asked me that. If I wanted to kill you, you’d be dead by now. I would have if she didn’t need you.” his fangs shot out of his gums. “You dare test me young one? Those wolves might be scared of you, but you are no match for an old necromancer as myself.” Quan’s eyes turned blue Malia squeezed his hand. Silently consoling him.
“What do you want?”
“It has nothing to do with you. I need to speak with Vic” he felt Malia hand tense in his
“what does that have to with us?”
“I’m Vic” said Malia. He saw the confusion in his eyes “my father was the only person who would call me that Vic short for Victoria” her middle name. “smart girl. You remembered.”
“how do I know you’re truly my father?” she replied still behind Quan. He smiled
“Do you remember what I told you the day I had to leave?”
“Yes” she said her eyes getting watery.
“I said Vic you have a special gift I want you to use it for good. And no matter what you hear about me never let it influence your love for me. You are the one and only lady in my life. Don’t forget princess. Daddy will always be there for you no matter what even when you think im not. And what did I give you Vic?”
“You tell me” she said her love for this man turning to ice.
“A locket with your grandmother’s picture in it” Quan looked at the chain around her neck. Knowing he was telling the truth. Tears spilled down her cheek.
“You lied. You were never there” she said coldly. She turned to walk away, and he grabbed her arm. Quan quickly gripped his and her father turned to him
“Back off mutt” he said as he effortlessly caused the blood vessels in his head to pop over and over again. Quan dropped to the floor his hands on his head a guttural scream tore from his mouth. Malia hand shot out and instantly her father was pushed back.
“Stop it!” she dropped down beside Quan and her dad stopped. His eyebrows drew together quizzically. As if stunned trying to put together puzzle pieces.
“Vic listen to me I didn’t want to leave you, but they would’ve found you if I hadn’t. They would’ve killed you if they ever found out of your existence. Your too much of a threat. But I saw you every birthday and I was the proudest father on earth when you graduated. I know you heard me. You weren’t losing your mind Vic it was me” she looked up at him. He looked down grimacing at Quan “you weren’t supposed to even know him. I don’t know how you slipped past my radar mutt but if she wasn’t with child, I would kill you slowly and make you my slave.”
“Why would I be a threat? Im not like you” he turned his attention back to her “But you are your power is greater than mine, your mother is a witch. And I’m a necromancer. Your power is great. And this child’s power will be even more powerful than you can imagine.”
“Im not the only one like this. It’s not possible. Why would they want me dead?” “But you are that’s why your mother never exposed you to magic because if you were exposed you would have brought danger upon yourself and others. There are very few necromancers left and naturally necromancers don’t get along with others not their kind. Witches especially. Normally it’s impossible for anything to mate with a witch let alone have offspring because of their blood spell that was used many centuries ago to stop anything like this from happening their blood is fatal to vampires, werewolves, necromancers, whatever its fatal. But somehow it wasn’t Fatal to me, or this mutt. They say my parents used to get a warlock to cast many protection spells on me when I was a baby, I guess it worked out because im still here. Well to be fair, I didn’t your mom was a witch until she told me. And that’s when I told her what I was she stayed away from me until she found out she was pregnant. We knew then it would be dangerous. Everything was fine until you were around 5, you started coming into your powers, little stuff like turning the light on without touching it and opening and closing doors. We realized how quick you were coming into your powers when you started, starting fires. Fire is the most difficult to master it took your mom years to even try to master it. We knew we had to keep you from your power’s, so we started by telling you not to use it at all. Which you did but around 6 that’s when you started having nightmares of ghost and zombies. You were resurrecting them. We lived about 2 miles from a graveyard. We talked to your grandmother and she and your mother cast a power binding spell on you, but I had to leave one because the effect of me having so much power around you was what was causing you to come into your powers so quickly. Second because after the whole you resurrecting the dead bodies thing, I was the only necromancer around. They council came looking for who was responsible. Me and your mom weren’t married so they didn’t suspect me as your father.
They didn’t know they were seeing each other. They came after me, so I had to leave. That’s also the reason why you had to move away from your grandmother. Too much power it was influencing yours. Your mother had to stop using it. It killed her inside, but she wouldn’t jeopardize you. But now that you moved out, she dabbles in it. They still have people after me, but they can’t keep up with me. And if you don’t believe me call your mom or grandma. But I have a feeling that you do. Can I have a hug now Vic?” he smiled as she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him. “I missed you so much Vic”
Quan interjected “well why are you here now? She hasn’t come into her powers”
“Yes, she has. Your power is influencing hers. And the baby’s power…. Im wondering why you’re not starting fires when your angry or raising armies and seeing ghosts on a regular. She has too much power right now. And she’s never learned how to use her original powers. I don’t know what this child is capable of, but I don’t know if she can handle it. She knows that something is a threat to her so, she’s been having visions of the present and the future, of any threat to the ones she loves.” he scowled at Quan. “I don’t like you and when I thought about killing you that’s when she had the vision of me. I swear to you if anything happens to her. I will be your undoing.” Quan let a growl tear from his lips again “you sure you want to test me again”
“Stop it. Someone’s at the door” she said.
“Your senses aren’t the greatest, are they?” he said to Quan. He ignored her dad as he looked out the peephole and opened the door the lady stepped over the thresh hold.
“Ivan you’ve beaten me here I see”
“And she still lives! Liz, one day I might have to kill you myself”
“Ha! and risk me terrorizing you for all eternity I don’t think you would do that” “I think im going to be sick” she ran to the bathroom and threw, up Quan went
after her.
“I knew she was yours. You look like twins. I doubted it though because I didn’t
sense her magic”
“I guess sense is not a great ability for your kind because my blood courses
through her veins” he said with a smirk.
“I can definitely sense it now. They have to leave, it’s not safe here for them
Ivan. They have to be taught our ways.”
“My daughter won’t be around your kind”
“Well who else is going to protect her. You never stuck around”
“He will be raised to kill your kind” Liz was about to retort with another comment
when a scream tore through the condo. Ivan was at his daughters’ side in a flash.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with her she just kept saying she won’t leave me
alone” said Quan. His daughter ran beside him trying to get behind him “make her go away! Please!” he grabbed her shoulders and looked into her eyes
“Calm down!” she continued to squirm trying to get behind him “Vic! Calm
down!” she stopped but continued to shake “look at her and tell her to go away”
“Please just stop her dad”
“No. You have to do it, or you won’t learn. Stand right here in front of me and tell her to go away. Stay calm she can’t hurt you” he turned her around and when she opened her eyes the ghost stood right in front of her inches away from her face” she jumped back but the solid force behind her prevented her from moving “it’s okay. Now tell her.” Quan and Liz stood watching them not able to see the ghost but knowing it was there.
“Go away” her voice trembled.
“Keep your voice stern vic. Take a deep breath and tell her again.” she did as she was told. With her eyes closed she said.
“Go Away.” When she opened her eyes, the ghost was gone.
“Good. Took me forever to learn how to do that. But you must have thought about something for her to appear to you like that”
“But I wasn’t”
“But you did”
Liz interjected “What makes you think that she did?”
“Because Liz, she did I know”
“How?”
“Because she was out there with us! If you must know, she was trying to talk to me. And when she appeared to Vic she stood there waiting… waiting for Vic to command her to do something” Liz didn’t comment. “what were you thinking Vic?”
“Nothing. I don’t know. Everything!”
“What were your exact thoughts Vic?”
“After I threw up, I hated Quan for doing this to me and I was angry I felt like I was trapped, and I needed help.”
Quan looked at her. “You feel trapped by me?”
“No, I just. I just I feel like, I don’t know” she said.
“Calm down Vic you could bring her back”
She looked at Quan as he stared at her and she was about to say im sorry when her father said, “don’t you dare apologize to that mutt!” Quan turned his stare to her father.
“Keep out of it”
“Don’t challenge me mutt”
“Quan why don’t you come with me. Ill teach you how to do somethings and Malia can learn some things from her father” Liz quickly interjected before things got out of hand. Quan looked at Malia and gently pulled her into his arms.
“Malia, I love you. If you feel trapped, you don’t have to stay here if you don’t want. As long as you have somewhere safe to stay, I won’t mind.” he kissed her and stared in her eyes, showing her that he was sincere before following Liz into the living room.
Once Malia and her dad were in the bedroom, she asked “how do I control it?”
“Until you learn how to you to keep your emotions under control, you it will be hard to. Lots of things can be triggered by your emotions.”
“What’s the easiest thing to learn?”
“Let’s start with some hard stuff since you already know how to conjure and send them back. Let’s try looking for a spirit. Anyone in mind?”
“No”
“Would you like to meet your grandma. My mother?” she smiled but it faded
“Will she be like the other one that was just here?” He laughed at the reference of the woman who had drowned in a lake, her body never found. So, her skin was deteriorated. Her soul could never find rest. That’s why she was trying to communicate with him.
“No”
“Alright”
“Her name is Amellia De Luca you can think it or say her name aloud. But concentrate, it’s going to feel like your pulling her just concentrate.” so she did. She silently said her name in her head she felt the pull “that’s it vic. Open your eyes and see what you’re doing” she did and as she was told. She saw the faint outline of the body “keep pulling Vic” so she did. Finally, she was there in front of her staring at her with anger written across her face.
“Who are you? And what do you want?”
“I’m Malia.” Ivan stepped from behind the spirit to beside Malia.
“Mother, she’s your granddaughter” Malia looked into the woman’s eyes. And the woman smiled but it faded.
“What is she?”
“She has witch in her bloodline.” she looked stared intently at Malia, and then back at her son.
“No something else is there.”
“She is with child. A powerful son. Ware wolf and Vamp” it was Malias turn to look at him confused.
“Witches blood won’t allow it!” she stated matter of factly. With almost no room to argue.
“But it has mom look at her, all those protection spells were worth it, it passed down the bloodlines” Both Ivan and Amelia studied her.
“She’s dangerous Ivan” Malia felt rejected by the grandmother she never knew.
“What did you use to say about dangerous people mom?” he said smirking with a glint in his eyes that promised trouble in the future, to anyone who proposed harm to either one of his lineal descent. Amelia looked up from her granddaughter to her son.
“They’re the best type.” she smiled as she looked upon her granddaughter. Giving her look of deep approval and regret that she couldn’t physically be there for her right now. Malia smiled back giving an understanding look.
“She pulled you through on her first try mom and she did it in her head. She didn’t say one thing aloud”
“I’m proud to say that my blood runs through her veins you must summon me when the child is born. When is it due?
“I don’t kn..” Malia stopped when her father interrupted and said
“Could be 2 weeks, could be 12 months. You never know with vamps plus what he is, is unheard of.”
“Well don’t forget about me darling. I’ll be around. Now can you push me back through” She gave Malia a promising stare. That she would in fact be around.
“Okay Malia now concentrate and try to give her a little shove through” she looked at.
“Okay” she did as she was told when she opened her eyes she was gone.
“I am going to teach you one other thing. It’s how to raise the dead. It’s dangerous that’s why im not going to let you try it yet, but I will tell you in case you’re in danger. You have to truly concentrate. You have to tell them to come to you. To come through the barrier that is keeping them from earth and their bodies. Once you have done that you must control them tell them what to do and they will do it. And to send them back you do the same thing with your grandmother. Do you understand?” she nodded yes. He smiled and kissed her forehead.
“What do you mean the baby may be born within two weeks or 12 months?” she asked nervously.
“Liz didn’t tell you?” she shook her head no, he sighed “vamps regenerate quickly. So, the baby is growing quickly you have to remember it’s not a normal child.” He saw the worried look in her eyes “stay calm Vic remember what I told you. We are going to be here for you. So, stay calm” The look he gave her was no non-sense look and she had an overwhelming feeling to obey or consequences would follow. Although she vaguely remembered the look it still registered in her brain as clear as the last day, he gave her the look, which she honestly could not recall. It took her all of two seconds to get her emotions under control.
“I’m tired” was her only verbal reply though.
“Alright goodnight sweetheart, I’ll see you next time”
“Wait you can’t go”
“Calm down your bringing them forward. Their sensing your panic” she closed her eyes. “if you don’t want me to, I won’t leave I’ll stay here”
“Thank you. You can sleep on the couch”
“What about Quan?” Quan came through the door
“Absolutely not. He’s not staying here”
“Yes, he is.”
“I’m sorry babe but he can’t”
“He will”
“I said no”
“I don’t give a f**k what you say! He stays, or I leave. Now take your damn pick!” she yelled.
“Dammit Vic what did I just tell you about your emotions! Look at me okay. Don’t look around. Close your eyes and send them away. Say the words” but it was too late because she already had looked around. Figures started to form around and crossing over from the other side. Her heart stopped in her chest. She felt like she was having a heart attack. She watched Quans look of bewilderment. His fangs were out. He stepped in front of both, herself and her dad and crouched in a protective stance. He looked more menacing than she had ever seen before. More dead bodies appeared around them and the growl that came from Quan sounded more of a guttural snarl. She felt her dad’s hands guide her face so that she can look directly into his eyes. “Calm down. Concentrate on sending them back. I will not do it for you.” He stepped back and nodded to her.
She did as she was told. Closing her eyes, she concentrated on pushing them through. “Good. Keep going. It’s okay now. Open your eyes.” she opened her eyes and sighed in relief.
“Thank you.” She watched Quan as he slowly stood up and turned to them. Looking actually grateful that her father was there for that moment. “can I talk to Quan alone dad?” he got up and left out the room. Closing the door behind him “I need him here. There is stuff happening to me that I don’t understand. I freak out when I see them. He helps me I need him here” he looked into her eyes
“I don’t like him.”
“He’s my dad” he rolled his eyes heavenward.
“I understand. I have had a headache all day and it seems the longer I stay up the worst it gets so I’m going to sleep” he said as he laid down.
“Thank you, baby,” she went into the living room and saw her father with his jacket off and comfortable on the couch she got a blanket from the closet and gave it to him.
“I would’ve stayed even if he had said no. I wouldn’t leave you here with him” she smiled inwardly to herself wondering why she still felt such a powerful connection to him after all these years. She felt as if she had grown up with him around all her life.
“Why do I feel as if you never left? Like I grew up with you around me… and I couldn’t even remember what you looked like”
“It’s a witch thing. It has something to do with strong family bonds. Basically, when you get that feeling of knowing someone you’ve never met or don’t really know, they are a part of your coven. When you’re with someone of your same coven your power increases. You feed off of each other’s power with only a hand touch. Some like your mother can even tap into the others power without physical contact. Your coven is beyond powerful. For some reason every one of your coven is able to do that. Even before mastering their powers. It’s something unique to your coven alone. That is why we had to separate. Your mom had to stop using her powers. I couldn’t be around, and you couldn’t be around your family for long periods of time. Especially big numbers.”
She watched her dad trail off. Looking at something in the distance. “I remember we took you to one of the coven gatherings. At the time you were the only child there. There are only two others that were underage. They couldn’t come. We watched as you interacted with the elders. The elders tried not to take to you. But one look at your doe eyes and they were hooked. They didn’t approve of the mixed blood. But, as I said before, strong family bonds. They loved you regardless of their thoughts of your bloodline. We watched as one of the elders picked a nearby flower that had yet to blossom. A warlock name Edris. He waved his hand over the flower and before your eyes it blossomed. You were so excited. You then took his pinky and dragged him to the flower bed and repeated his actions. Not only did the whole flower bed bloom. But every flower in the yard. Everyone was astonished. From that moment on. You had every elders respect. And no one would dare challenge an elder with their thoughts of your dangerous power. They all went over to you. Their hands locked together forming a circle. You in the center. They each said their own chant of a protection spell. This is the highest form of honor. For it doesn’t happen very often. Later that night, after not having your nap, you began to get moody and irritable. We had stepped out of the room with the elders to speak about you and precautions we should take. We heard your whines, so we went back in. You had your hands out and you were drawing all the other covens’ powers to you. Auras of different colors were being drawn from others to you. Next thing you we knew you set your own body ablaze. Edris acted quick and said a quick chant while moving his hands, a thundercloud formed above you before dousing you with water. You passed out after that. He told us that night that we had to keep you away from the coven until you learned how to manage your emotions. The worst part of it all was you didn’t say one thing. You didn’t have to touch one person. You were maybe 4 or 5 at that time. Yet your display of power was greater than they had ever experienced. You had no training, it came to you naturally. You had no burn marks.
The best thing about it was that you exhausted yourself. That means your power is not limitless, if your power was limitless you would’ve become target no. 1 to all covens and super natural kind. Your passing out spared us to this day of assassination attempts. And honestly, I do not believe you actually passed out. I do believe Edris cast a temporary sleeping spell on you. There was this twinkling of mischief in his eye. If you are ever in a bind. And you have no one to trust. You Call out Edris’s name. He shall help you!” she looked at him floored about what he just told her. “This is why you must control your emotions. You must learn to master your powers. With or without anyone by your side, because as soon as everyone finds out not only what you are, but what coven you’re from. They will try to destroy not only you but the child as well. Vick you are not in this alone. One thing I do know is that the mutt will kill anyone who attempts to cross any one of you. That I can promise. Trust in him and his abilities.”
She didn’t know what to say. At the moment she was on information overload. “Goodnight.” she said awkwardly after a while.
“Goodnight Vick” he grabbed her hand as she turned around and pulled her to him. He kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. She smiled into his chest as she wrapped her arms around him. “Love you Vick.”
“Love you too dad” he slowly released his hold on her and let her go. She turned away and walked back to her bedroom. She closed the door behind her. She looked over to Quan. His head was buried in the pillow. She climbed over to the other side of the bed and kissed his cheek. She got under the covers and snuggled next to him.
“Liz told me the reason im so attached to you is because you’re my mate.”
“Your mate?” she felt like she was dreaming. Information overload, she hoped that she would soon wake up.
“Yea. You’re my mate. Like a soul mate. I’ll never meet anyone that I will love as much as I love you. I’ll never want anyone else.” she smiled.
“What else did you learn?” she said turning around to face him.
“If I was a part of a pack, if I accepted the role, I would become the alpha wolf. She said it’s a lot that I don’t know that she has to tell me……she wants me to come stays with her…” her face contorted with confusion and then realization
“But what ……why?”
“To learn the ways”
“What about me?”
“Your dad won’t allow it…”
“For how long?” he looked away and then back into her eyes
“A while”
“But what about us?” he looked at her as if she had lost her mind
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing” she felt the tears coming and she turned around, so he wouldn’t see. She closed her eyes and hoped they would go away.
“No, what did you mean? you know how I feel about people doing that.” she just shook her head. “Malia turn back around” she ignored him. He started to control his temper and he asked again but she ignored him again. He closed his eyes and counted to 10. He forced her to face him by turning her body towards him. She kept her eyes closed.
“Let me go”
“Say it”
“Let me go!” she tried to jerk away from him, but she held tight.
“Tell me and I’ll let you go”
“No” he tried but his anger grew and was spilling over.
“You are so f*****g impossible. If it’s not one thing It’s another. You need to grow up!” he said finally letting her go. Her eyes flew open as tears ran down her face. He turned his back on her and she pushed him off the bed. It must’ve been the powers kicking in because she never had the strength before to push him anywhere.
“You b***h! You knock me up, ask me to marry you!!!, I’m forced to go through this s**t!!! And Now you’re telling me your leaving me!!!! Well f**k you Quan!!!!!” as he looked at her while she was raging on. Her eyes turned yellow! Yellow! What the f**k he thought to his self as they seemed to glow brighter. She turned around and laid down.
“You can sleep on the floor”
“Baby…” he tried to grab her, but she yanked away “babe your eyes are yellow..” she turned back around
“What?”
“Your eyes were yellow”
“Seriously nothing even phases me anymore” she tiredly turned to him and put her hand over his mouth. “just let it go im exhausted” she laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes.
“If you wouldn’t bring it up then…” she put her finger to his mouth
“Shhhhh… be quiet. Go to sleep.”
“Females and hormones” he thought to his self. He smiled and bit her finger. She snatched her hand away and he smiled and bent his head down to her neck and playfully kissed her.
“Stop…No.. Bad” she said in a stern but playful voice while pointing her index finger in his face. His face scrunched up.
“If you want to treat me like a dog, I can show you how one acts” he said playfully nipping at her. She giggled
“Quit Quan” he pulled her close to him and kissed the back of her neck.
“Goodnight baby”
“Goodnight hun” she snuggled closer to him and drifted off to sleep. He stayed awake deep in thought, pondering how he could get the training he needed and still be by Malias side.
