Only I decide

Sloane; Killian’s words were still in the air when the office doors burst open. Seraphina marched in. She was followed by four security guards and the HR manager. Behind them, I saw Caleb. He looked nervous, but he was trying to hide it. "Killian!" Seraphina snapped. "What is this? Why is this thief still in your office? The police are downstairs. They are waiting to take her away." Killian did not let go of my chin. He slowly turned his head to look at his sister. His blue eyes were cold and hard. "She is not going anywhere," Killian said. His voice was low, but it made everyone in the room stop moving. "She stole sixty thousand dollars!" Caleb yelled from the back. He stepped forward, looking at me with hate. "I have the emails, Killian. She is a criminal. She is dangerous. She tried to attack me at the hotel, and now she is trying to rob the company." I felt my blood boil. "You are the thief, Caleb! You stole my designs and my money!" Caleb laughed. It was a fake, mean sound. "See? she’s crazy. Killian, give her to the guards. Don't let her ruin our family name." Killian finally let go of my face. He walked toward Caleb. Killian was much taller and much broader. Caleb looked like a small child standing next to a giant. "You talk a lot about the family name, Caleb," Killian said. He sounded bored, but I could feel the anger coming off him. "But you forget one thing. I am the Alpha of this family. I am the CEO of this company." "Of course," Caleb said, his voice shaking a little. "That is why you must follow the rules. She is a thief. The rules say she must go to jail." Killian leaned down so he was face-to-face with Caleb. "I don't follow rules. I make them. And I just made a new one." "What rule?" Seraphina asked, her face turning red with anger. "Sloane Vance is under my protection," Killian roared. The sound was so loud it made the glass windows shake. "Anyone who touches her, touches me. Anyone who lies about her, lies to me. Do you want to lie to me, Caleb?" Caleb backed away. He almost tripped over his own feet. "No... no, Killian. I just... the emails..." "I will look at the emails myself," Killian said. He turned to the security guards. "Get out. Now. If I see you on this floor again without my permission, you are fired." The guards didn't wait. They turned around and ran out the door. The HR manager followed them, looking terrified. Seraphina stood her ground. "You are making a mistake, brother. This girl will be your end. The pack will not like this. They will think you are weak for picking a human-born girl over your own blood." "The pack follows me because I am the strongest," Killian said. "Not because I follow your orders. Leave us." Seraphina looked at me one last time. It was a look of pure poison. Then she grabbed Caleb’s arm and pulled him out of the room. Caleb looked back at me, and I saw the fear in his eyes. He knew his plan was falling apart. The room went quiet. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I looked at Killian. He was standing with his back to me, looking at the city. "Why did you do that?" I asked. "You know everyone will hate you for it." "I don't care about their hate," he said. He turned around. He looked tired. "I did it because I had to. The bond between us is growing. If you go to jail, I will go crazy. My wolf will tear this city apart to get to you." "So I'm a prisoner here?" I asked. "You are safe here," he said. "That is not the same thing." He walked over to a small door in the corner of his office. He opened it. It was a private bedroom. It had a big bed, a desk, and a window that looked over the whole harbor. "Stay here tonight," he said. "I have work to do. I’m going to find out who really sent those emails." "I can help," I said. "I know how Caleb thinks. I know his passwords. I’m a mechanic, Killian. I know how to fix things that are broken." Killian looked at me for a long time. Then he walked over and touched my hair. It was a soft touch, and it surprised me. "Rest, Sloane," he whispered. "The war is just starting. You will need your strength." He left the room and closed the door. I heard the lock click. I sat on the big, soft bed. For the first time in days, I didn't have to worry about the police or a place to sleep. But as I looked out at the dark water of the harbor, I knew I wasn't free. I was in the middle of a Thorne family fight. And Killian Thorne was the most dangerous wolf of them all.
