Chapter 42 No matter how much or how hard Kim wished for something, anything, about Lightning Ridge Road to let her know if she’d made the right choice, it remained silent and relentless. Remarkably flat for running along the top of a ridge, even as much as it curved. Or at least it seemed that way to someone walking. The blacktop had been recently paved, so it didn’t offer distinctive potholes or a pattern of cracks that stood out. Trees and those ever-present rhododendrons and mountain laurels peaked through the gloom. Some closer to the road, some farther away.
