The interclub was on the Saturday after that. Tab had been looking forward to it for weeks, mostly to get to watch Nick in action proper, but after Nick and Demi had just merged like that in his head…
Uncle Eddie had hired a minibus, because the other club was two towns over, and Tab had tried to beg off after helping him load up the kit, but no dice. Eddie had just snorted and clapped him on the shoulder (and nearly taken his arm off, holy s**t) and said, “Not passing up a chance to talk to your Nick, are you?”
“He’s not my Nick,” Tab mumbled, flushing hotly.
“Not until you tell him,” Eddie said agreeably, and shook his head. “Nope, you’re coming. Kate’s having the girls round and wants us both out for the day. And you know how she gets!”
Tab did know. But it didn’t help.
