Tension rose visibly in their eyes as they waited for Rita's response to their pleas. If she would make any impact on the lives of people, that was the time because she never knew what the outcome of her fight would be, victory or defeat. She would be involved in a serious battle and defeat would automatically mean death. She had to make an impact in order to be remembered among the people. Rita took a step forward, her mother tried to stop her but her trial was to no avail.
A strong force overshadowed her and lifted her two feet above the ground like it did in the case of the drowned little boy. Her eyes began to glow, her pupils became invisible as the cornea became prominently outward. Her face shone so bright that it emitted light bright enough to damage the sight of anyone who dared steal a glance at her. She started speaking a strange language:
"Ik kan dit niet alleen, maar ik weet dat de kracht van genezing die mij is gegeven genoeg is om jou te genezen. Wees genezen! Wees genezen!Wat je ziekte ook is, wees genezen".
(I cannot do this on my own but i know the power of healing given to me is enough to heal you all. Be healed! Be healed! whatever your sickness is, be healed).
She had lived all her life in the village, so, how she could speak a different language from theirs let the crowd wondering what happened to her.
The bright light she emitted overshadowed the crowd and everyone of them began to stagger. some fell down, others were brought to their knees as their bodies started making changes. They were healed of all their diseases within a twinkle of an eye. The light withdrew from them and got absorbed by Rita. She fell down and fainted.
A young man named Daniel helped Cecilia carry her inside while the crowd dispersed. She was laid on the bed to rest since she was still breathing normally. Cecilia sent for a herbalist who came and administered some herbs to Rita. She woke up hours later but remained in bed because she was too weak to do anything. Daniel was with them all through, helping Cecilia take care of Rita and run few errands for them. He was happy and eager to help Rita, at least, to show appreciation for healing his only brother who was born mute and deaf. His brother's condition was a big burden to him because he loved him very much and wanted to hear him talk. His joy was immeasurable when his brother shouted his name and told him he could hear everyone. He decided to reciprocate the kindness by helping the healer regain consciousness and run errands in any way possible. His enthusiasm created suspicion in Cecilia's mind. Could he be falling in love already with Rita? Oh! this is getting messy. Someone please save her dear daughter from this looming danger.
