|| S H A N Z E || I was laying on my bed thinking about sudden turn of my life and it was giving me a headache. I was crying with dried tears since last night. Suddenly, my room door opened. I looked up and saw Hasan. He was looking smiling but I could tell it was forced. He entered in my room and closed the door. I patted him to sit beside me. He obedient but laid beside me. I turned my face to look at him but he eyes were closed. “Why are not looking yourself?” I asked him in a whisper. “I am,” He said and looked at me with a forced smile again. “Hasan?” I asked him again. “I don't want you to marry,” He said, finally looking up at the ceiling. I looked at him in shocked. But he was not giving me much of emotions. And I couldn't put my finger on what he was thinking. “Why?” I asked few moments later after finding my voice. “Because I don't want you. And I know you also don't want to marry him,” He whispered turning his face towards me. Finally, he looked at me. He gave me a small smile which held sadness in it. “But you have to marry him. You both are destined together,” He whispered looking away. “I doubt this marriage will work,” I confessed to him what I was thinking. “Why you think this?” He asked sitting up. “Because he hates me,” I said with a shrug after sitting up. “He loves you but he don't know how to show it to you,” Hasan said. I looked at him in confusion, shocked, and in surprised. I knew he was lying because Zeeshan hated me from the start. “Angel, just have faith in everything. But always remember one thing, my doors are and will always open for you. Whenever you want you can come to me,” He said standing up. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked at it. He turned to me and smiled at me. “I have a meeting in half an hour. I have to leave,” He said. When he said meeting then I noticed he was in his office clothes. He bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead. “Take care!” He said and walked out of my room. • • • Time flew so fast. I didn't know when these days passed so fast. Just one week then I would be married. I looked down at the name of Zeeshan on my hand. Mom didn't let it erase. My parents were happy for my wedding and everyone was busy with wedding preparations. Hasan visited me everyday and tried to bring a smile on my face. He always told me that we were going to love each other after marriage. As for Zeeshan, he was not in country from one week. He had a business trip and were coming back a day before our Nikkah. Tayaabu and dad wanted every wedding function and it was also my grans wish. Mahira didn't talk to me and whenever he got time she would blamed me for stealing Zeeshan. The bell of the house was ringing. I was in the kitchen cooking lunch. I looked at the clock in confusion. Hasan had a key of our house, so I knew it was not him. “I'll see!” I yelled. I quickly went to see who was at door. I heard familiar voices. I opened the door and was greeted by my cousins from mom’s side. Not just my cousins were there, my mom’s brothers and sisters were also with them. I welcomed everyone inside and greeted them. “Future bride, how are you?” Kunza, my cousin, asked with a teasing smirk. “I am fine. Just like you,” I said hugging her. I took them to the living room and on hearing many sounds, mom and dad both entered in the living room. I went to the kitchen for the refreshments and served them. The whole house was packed and everyone was talking with each other. I quickly went to the kitchen and finished cooking. “Lunch anyone?” I asked because I didn't know they had lunch already or not. “If you cook then yes. Seriously, you are the best chef of our family,” Saba, my other cousin, said with a wink. I rolled my eyes because whenever they came they told me the same thing. But, nonetheless, I thanked her and went back to the kitchen. I put the dishes full of tasty food on the dinning table. One the smell of it, my cousins entered in the dining room. Some helped me with setting the table and some, who were young, quickly started eating. “Hello, beautiful ladies and, ahem, uncles!” I heard Hasan voice. I quickly put the last plate on the table and went to living room. My male cousins rolled their eyes at him and my female cousins, what could I say about them. My female cousins started drooling over him. Behind him was Mahira who entered inside and looked at everyone with wide eyes then a big smile broke on her face. She greeted everyone with happiness dancing in her eyes. I looked at Hasan who was staring at her. When he felt my eyes on him, he looked at me. I raised my eyebrow. ‘Later!’ He mouthed. I nodded my head and went to serve elders in the living room. Hasan helped me serving everyone. “Now she will cook that type of tasty food for her in laws and specially for her husband would be,” Mom’s brother said putting his hand on my head then gave me his blessings. After lunch, Hasan motioned me to come over the roof. I followed him a minute later. “Why you didn't tell me about Mahira?” Hasan asked, angrily. “What are you about?” I asked him in confusion. “That she wants to marry Zeeshan. She knows you are the one for him but she wants to move you out of the picture,” His anger grew second by second. “What!?” I tensed when I heard mom voice from behind me. I turned around and saw her standing near the door with wide eyes and disbelief look.
