Chapter 3: Galentor’s Jade stopped just inside Galentor’s airlock-style opening for a quick repair of the damage the wind and rain had done to her composure and outfit. A gentle fall night for Cablans: -4C, winds from the northeast at fifteen kilometers, and a centimeter of rain each hour. After work she’d changed from her adrenalin-sweat-soaked purple recyclables into what she thought of as her “merc suit”—one of the two she always kept in her locker at Rix’s place. Tonight she very glad for the water-repellent, insulated, comfortable jumpsuit with integral boots. A quick shake and brush got rid of the rain on the fabric, a rapid folding turned the hood into a thick cowl collar, and the gloves fit into one of the pouches on the heavy belt. The deep charcoal gray was hard to see at night.
