CELEBRATION
They were married on the Hamiltons’ back lawn beneath the arch laden with bougainvillea. Mercifully, Alice slept in Dorothy’s arms throughout the whole ceremony. Peter and Stephen took up their duties as pageboys, standing by Nicholas in front of a large group of gathered witnesses. The Hamiltons had many friends and all were pleased to be celebrating after the difficult time they’d had cleaning up after the flood. Florence eagerly embraced her position as maid of honour and Lillian tried extremely hard not to resent Nicholas’s caring and sensitive sister for not being Patricia. She, herself, wore a gown of ivory silk, which Dorothy and Florence had made for her. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen in her life.
