Alfred took no pleasure in her return at all. ‘What the hell are we meant to do with you? We can scarcely afford to feed ourselves.’ ‘Alfred, please.’ Patricia placed a palm on his chest to calm him. He roughly brushed her off and stomped outside. Lillian kept herself busy and let Patricia order her about until her irritation at having a prodigal sister return abated.
