CHAPTER 11 SPRING HILL Lillian held up her ends of the double sheet and folded them over. ‘Yes, I would love to come.’ Catherine dropped her hands, clapped them together and squealed with delight. ‘Look what yer made me do! Do yer really mean it? Och, Lillian, we’re going to have a grand time! Yer not toying with me now, are yer?’ ‘No, Patricia said she could manage without me for one weekend.’ Lillian felt a pang at the lie. She’d lied to her sister as well. When she’d left the cottage there had been no offer from Catherine but Lillian knew it would only be a matter of time. ‘The others will be so surprised. I cannae believe it.’ Catherine picked her end of the sheet up from the floor and closely inspected it. ‘No harm done.’ ‘Thank you for not giving up on asking me,’ Lillian said.
