I WISH IT WAS A DREAM.

Amanda POV Sleep never came. I laid on the small mattress in my room, staring at the ceiling as if it might crack open and give me answers no one else would. The walls felt closer than they ever had before, like they were slowly pressing in, reminding me that everything I had ever known was about to disappear by morning. Dawn. The word echoed in my head like a countdown I couldn’t stop. Just hours ago, I had been unseen. Now… I was the center of something I didn’t understand—something I didn’t ask for, nor could I escape. My chest tightened as I turned onto my side, pulling the blanket closer around me even though I wasn’t cold. I was restless. Not physically. It was deeper than that. Like something inside me was pacing… waiting… reacting. The bond. I squeezed my eyes shut. No. I wasn’t calling it that. I wasn’t accepting it. And yet… A sharp pull twisted through my chest. It rushed through me so fast that I gasped softly, my fingers clutching the fabric over my heart as something unfamiliar surged through me. Not pain, but something warmer, heavier, and possessive. My breath hitched. That wasn’t mine. It couldn’t be. I pushed myself upright, my heart racing faster than it should. “What is wrong with me…?” I whispered. The feeling faded slightly but didn’t disappear completely. It lingered, like a thread stretched between me and something or someone. I didn’t need to guess who; I already knew. Three of them. The thought alone made my stomach twist. I swung my legs off the bed, pacing the small room as if my movements would keep me calm. It didn’t. It only made it worse, because the more I tried to ignore it, the clearer it became. Three different beings. One steady and overwhelming. One distant, resisting. One quiet and watching. My breath grew uneven. “This isn’t real,” I muttered. “It can’t be real.” Suddenly, a soft knock at the door froze me in place. My heart jumped. No one ever visited me. The knock came again, as if whoever was on the other side already knew I was there, knew I wasn’t asleep. I hesitated for a bit before stepping forward and pulling the door open. And there he was. Alpha Noir. He entered the doorway without trying, and his presence alone was enough to make the small space feel even smaller. For a moment, neither of us spoke. I suddenly became very aware of how close he was, how easily he could step inside, and how easily I could be overwhelmed again. “What do you want?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended. His gaze moved over me slowly, studying me: my tired eyes, the tension in my shoulders, the way my hands curled slightly at my sides. “You felt it.” It wasn’t a question. My throat tightened. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” That was a lie, and we both knew it. His eyes darkened slightly. “You felt the bond.” The word hit differently coming from him, like it was unbreakable. I crossed my arms, trying to hold onto whatever control I had left while avoiding his gaze. “I felt something,” I admitted. “That doesn’t mean I accept it.” “You don’t have to accept it,” he said calmly. “It exists regardless.” “Stop saying that like it’s supposed to make me feel better,” I said in a frustrated tone. “It’s not meant to,” he replied. He just… told the truth, even when it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. “Why me?” I asked, the question slipping out before I could stop it. “Out of everyone in the pack… why me?” A brief pause settled between us. “You’ll understand,” he said. And somehow… that frustrated me more. “That’s not an answer.” “It’s the only one you’re getting tonight.” I clenched my jaw. “I’m leaving tomorrow,” I said. “Does this… whatever it is… follow me?” His gaze held mine. “Yes.” The word landed like a weight in my chest. “Even in the human world?” “Yes.” “So I’m just supposed to live with this?” I demanded. “With something I didn’t choose?” “Yes.” “That’s not fair!” I said in anger. “No,” he agreed. He didn’t argue or try to justify it. He just… accepted it. And for some reason, that made it worse. “Get some rest,” he said after a moment. “I’m not tired.” “You will be.” His eyes lingered on me for one last second before stepping back. The space between us widened, and the pressure eased slightly. But the thread? I still felt it; it stayed. And then he was gone. I closed the door slowly, leaning against it as I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. That didn’t help at all. A second knock came not long after. It was sharper this time. I didn't hesitate as much when I opened the door again. The second Alpha stood there. Soir. His expression was exactly what I expected: Cold. Controlled. Unimpressed. “We need to talk,” he said. “I think I’ve had enough talking for one night.” “This isn’t optional.” Of course it wasn’t. I stepped aside reluctantly, letting him in. He didn’t look around; his attention stayed fixed on me. “You should understand something clearly,” he said. “That this is a mistake?” I muttered. His eyes narrowed slightly. “At least we agree on something.” “I didn’t ask for this,” I said, my voice tightening. “You think I wanted to be dragged into whatever this is?” “No,” he said flatly. “But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re a liability now.” A sharp breath left me. “A liability?” “Yes.” He stepped closer, not aggressively, but deliberately. “The pack is already unstable. This bond, this… situation only makes it worse.” “So what?” I snapped. “You want me gone? Good. That’s already happening.” “That’s not the problem.” “Then what is?” His gaze sharpened. “You are.” “Then you don’t have to worry about me,” I said coldly. “I’ll be out of your life by morning.” “That’s not guaranteed.” My stomach dropped. “What does that mean?” He didn’t answer immediately. And that silence? It told me everything. “You might be the one going with me,” I realized. His jaw tightened slightly. “Yes.” The word hung heavy between us. “And you don’t want that,” I asked. “No,” he said. At least he was honest. “Good,” I said, lifting my chin slightly. “Because I don’t want you either.” Something flickered in his eyes. Like annoyance, but it faded quickly before I could read it. “Get used to disappointment,” he said. And just like that, he turned and walked out. That was worse than Noir. I let out a shaky breath, dragging a hand through my hair. “Great,” I muttered. “Just great.” A third knock came, softer this time. I stared at the door. Of course. Why not complete the set? When I opened it, the third Alpha stood there. Coir. He didn’t speak immediately; he just looked at me. And somehow… That felt more intense than anything the other two had done. “What?” I asked, more defensive than I intended. His gaze didn’t waver. “You don’t remember.” “Remember what?” He shook his head slightly. “Nothing.” “That’s not how that works,” I said, frowning. “You don’t just say something like that and then…” “You’ll remember.” A chill ran down my spine. The way he said it… like it was inevitable. Like it was only a matter of time. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about,” I said quietly. His gaze softened slightly. “That’s the problem.” And before I could respond, he stepped back. Like Noir. Like Soir. Leaving me with more questions than answers. The door closed again. Silence filled the room. I felt the tension and confusion of something building just beneath the surface. I didn’t sleep; I couldn’t. And before I even realized how much time had passed… …………… ……………… The sky outside began to lighten. Dawn. It came too fast. A knock sounded again, but this time, it wasn’t gentle. I opened the door only to find a guard waiting. “They’re ready,” he said. My chest tightened. They hadn't even allowed me to prepare myself. I followed him in silence, my steps slower than they should have been. Every part of me wanted to turn back. To disappear. But there was nowhere left to go. The clearing was quieter than it had been the night before, but the tension hadn't faded. The elders stood at the front. The three Alphas were just behind them, waiting and watching. I stopped a few feet away, my heart pounding. Silvia stepped forward. “It is time,” she said. There was no ceremony. No softness, just a decision. “The Alpha who will accompany you…” My breath caught. This was it. This was the moment everything changed. There was a long pause—long enough to make the silence unbearable. And then… “All of the three.” The word hit me like a shockwave. I turned instinctively. They were already looking at me. “What!” I realized something that made my stomach drop completely. I wasn’t just leaving the pack. I was leaving with all three of them. And somehow… That felt like the beginning of something far worse than anything I was leaving behind.
