Whenever I had the chance, I eagerly buried myself in his filing cabinet, looking through all kinds of valuable case materials. Soon, I found that three case materials from different periods were deliberately grouped together.
The top one was the "Yuelu Zhang Family m******e".
In 1996, a family of six surnamed Zhang in Yuelu District, Changsha City was brutally murdered. The dead were the hostess Cui, Cui's parents-in-law, her two sons and her sister-in-law. All six people died from sharp weapons. After killing the six people, the murderer cleaned up the scene. However, strangely, the head of the household, Zhang, disappeared. The police set up a special task force to work overnight. After a number of measures such as on-site inspections and investigations and visits, they quickly locked in the male owner of the household, Zhang, as a major suspect. After a pursuit, the criminal suspect Zhang, who had been on the run for several months, was finally controlled.
According to Zhang, he didn't know why he killed his relatives at that time. When he got home from get off work that night, he suddenly felt his mind was blank and he didn't know anything. When he was fully awake, he found that his relatives had fallen to the ground. He was so scared at the time that he dealt with the scene in a panic and then ran away. He claimed that he suffered from schizophrenia and that he committed such a heinous crime when he had an attack that night. The police conducted a mental evaluation on him, but no abnormalities were found. There was no history of mental illness in his family, and he was finally determined to be lying. Other evidence showed that Zhang's original residence was to be demolished. Because his family was a large household in the past, the area of the residence left was quite large. The government and the real estate development company allocated 4 million yuan in demolition compensation to Zhang's family in accordance with regulations. It is very likely that Zhang killed people in order to take this huge sum of money for himself. In addition, according to his neighbors, when Zhang was a child, his parents were very strict with him. After marriage, his wife was a tough character at home, the boss inside and outside, and Zhang could only obey their orders and had no say at all. It is said that once after get off work, Zhang celebrated his colleague's birthday and drank until late at night. Although he called home beforehand, he was still locked outside the door and kneeled until dawn. Zhang is introverted and cowardly all his life. He has worked in the printing and dyeing factory for decades but has never been promoted to an official position. This matter is often mentioned by his wife, who scolds him in front of others. Even his son does not call him dad, but calls him Lao Zhang. After years of family resentment and the sudden acquisition of a huge sum of money, he hopes to stand up straight and start all over again. He had a brain congestion and killed people to vent his anger. This is completely logical.
Although the case has been closed, the end of the file was heavily marked with a big question mark by Captain Wu in red pen. What does this mean? The evidence is conclusive, the murderer has been arrested, and he has confessed. Is there any doubt?
The next one is the "Wang Family Murder Case in Wangcheng District".
In 1997, 38-year-old Wang killed his wife and son with a knife, dipped his finger in blood, and wrote four big characters on the bedroom wall: "For the People". He then took the initiative to call 110 to report the crime. When the operator asked him, he claimed that he had killed his wife and children with his own hands, but he did not understand why he killed people. "It seemed like he was possessed by evil spirits at that time." A few minutes later, the police arrived at the scene and controlled them. Later, the police found Wang's wife Tian and son lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom. The emergency personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that the two were dead. Wang was taken to the Major Case Team of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Wangcheng Public Security Bureau for interrogation. Wang confessed that he actually loved his family very much, and he did not know why he suddenly killed people. It seemed that his brain was occupied by something at that time. When he woke up, he found that he had killed his wife and children. The police suspected that this person was mentally ill, so they went to investigate and found that Wang was indeed suffering from intermittent mental illness. He had been to the Wangcheng District Mental Hospital many times, but all treatments had not worked for the time being.
In the murder of the Wang family in Wangcheng District, the murderer was not criminally responsible because he was mentally ill. According to Article 18 of my country's Criminal Law, he was finally sent to a mental hospital for isolation treatment as a high-risk patient.
At the end of the file, Captain Wu also drew a huge question mark.
These two cases are far apart in time and region, and there is no connection between the suspects, and no evidence of believing in the same cult has been found. Even if there are similarities in the modus operandi, it cannot be determined that there is any connection between them. Almost most homicides have some degree of similarity, so it cannot be said that all homicides are related. The third "Children's Day Murder Case" also occurred in Yuelu District.
On June 1, 1998, the 110 Reporting Center received a call from a man who surrendered. He claimed to have killed his friend's family. The police rushed to the scene and arrested the man. After interrogation, the man's surname was Cui, and the victims were his friend Mr. Shen's family of four and his own girlfriend, a total of five people. Cui confessed that he and his girlfriend went out to eat with Mr. Shen that night. After dinner, Mr. Shen offered to take Cui and his girlfriend home. When they arrived at Cui's house, the two began to quarrel over trivial matters. Suddenly, for some reason, Cui's mind went blank as if he had been electrocuted. When he woke up, he found that Mr. Shen had been hacked to death by himself. Cui's girlfriend was so scared that she screamed loudly. Fearing that the matter would be exposed, Cui killed his girlfriend again. After a period of silence, Cui found the key to Mr. Shen's house from Mr. Shen, entered Mr. Shen's house and killed his wife and parents-in-law. As for why he went to Mr. Shen's house to kill Mr. Shen's other three relatives, Cui said during the police interrogation that he was "going all out".
The first two cases can be said to be family murders of their own family members, which are somewhat similar, but the murderer in this case is basically an outsider. Why did Captain Wu classify them all together? What exactly is the reason that makes Captain Wu think that there is some connection between them, even if there are still doubts in the face of iron facts?
After I carefully studied the three cases word by word for many times, I found that these three murders all have a very obvious feature, that is, after the murderer committed the murder, he claimed that the murder occurred when his mind was suddenly blank. In other words, they are all impulsive murders. Murder cases happen every day, and impulsive murders account for a large proportion of them. Why did these three cases attract the special attention of Captain Wu? This can only explain one problem: there must be some connection between these three cases that occurred in different periods and places! But what kind of connection is this? Captain Wu did not make a conclusion. It seems that even if he noticed the strangeness behind the case, he could not find conclusive evidence to support his suspicion.
To find evidence, you must go to the place where the crime was discovered! Now even if the files of these cases are turned over, there will be no breakthrough. The existing evidence can no longer fully reveal the truth of the facts. It is definitely not possible to work behind closed doors. I decided to walk through these crime scenes again! But the elites of the criminal investigation team have already done all the work that can be done. What new tricks can I, a new "cleaner" and a non-staff member, come up with? I have no idea except for the impetus to never turn back.
This matter must be carried out quietly.
