Gone

Jace's POV

I fly off the bed and out the door. "What do you mean he's gone?!"

Felix takes a few steps back and takes in that all I am wearing is boxers, thankfully not talking about the state I am in. I storm to my room to throw on clothes and glance over at the clock on the night stand and snatch up my phone. This is a huge problem for only being three in the morning. As I emerge from my room I see Felix is on the phone and when he sees me it looks like he has seen a ghost.

"What? What has happened in the last few minutes?" I snapped.

"Alpha, the guards at the gate are gone." he gulps.

"What the hell! What do you mean gone? Where did they go?" I mindlink my father to inform him. I am headed out with Felix when I stop suddenly.

"What's wrong?" He asks when he notices I am no longer following him.

"I can't leave Raelynn. There needs to be someone here to protect her. We have no idea where the prisoner has escaped to and now two of our most experienced guards are missing. It would be a mistake to leave her unguarded knowing that there was a man trying to kill her. Her life is not safe if not protected."

"I can get Gamma Oliver to come watch her."

"Okay but we do not leave until he is here and posted outside her door."

Felix nods at me and I head to Raelynn's room to let her know that I will be stepping out.

Raelynn's POV

Jace leaves after telling me that he has to go out and look for the man who tried to kill me and has now escaped the dungeons. He also has two missing guards on top of that. He said he was leaving Gamma Oliver to guard me to be safe and that Alpha Jacob is aware of everything going on as well. This was definately not how I expected to spend my time after finding my mate. I pace back and forth in front of the window and pray that Jace is okay.

Jace will be safe. He has Raj. You have me and that Gamma to protect you.

I haven't even shifted yet, so how can I defend myself? I have had no formal training, maybe that's what I need is take self-defence classes.

Wouldn't hurt. Then you wouldn't be so relient on others to be around.

Okay, then I am going to insist on being trained. And I need to shift soon.

That will happen at the next full moon, which is in 4 days.

By evening, the only improvement in the day is that the guards were found. Doused with wolfsbane, the only thing deadlier to us than silver. Luckily the pack doctor says they will be fine in a day or two. I have never felt more stressed than today. The pack was out searching for their pack members, the guards, because someone attacked them. All because someone wants me dead.

Jace hasn't been by to see me since he left early this morning and that bothers me. Does he regret what we did this morning? Or does he not want to finish what we started? My mind goes wild with thoughts and I am unable to keep my mind from running with thoughts about him not wanting me. We went from thinking I was an Omega to finding out I am the last living Royal. Maybe me being a Royal changes things, how will that impact Jace and the pack?

There's a soft knock on the door. I open the door a little and peek through the opening. Jace stands there with a tray full of food, so I open the door wider to allow him in.

"I didn't expect to see you, thought you would be out still looking for the prisoner." I say as I walk to the table I have set up by my window.

"Baby, I will be with you every day. I will never leave you if I can help it. You are my world." He says as he set the tray down on the table.

"Your whole world in a matter of hours? Finding that prisoner is important."

"Making sure you are safe is the most important thing. And who better to guarantee your safety than me." He grins at me as he leans down to kiss my forehead.

"I want to train."

"Absolutely not! You could be hurt." He says as he moves to the other side of the table.

"I am going to train, regardless of if I can get injured. I need to feel like I can defend myself shall the need arise. I also will need to be able to have my first shift and run in 4 days."

"Shifting for the first time can be painful and with the prisoner still out there I am not sure it's safe."

"Well I will be shifting, either you can be there to keep me safe or not. But it is happening."

"Raelynn be reasonable. Shifting for the first time should be done when it is safe." He says as walks over to me to claim my lips. Probably in an attempt to end the conversation and distract me.

I pull away. "If I am unable to shift, then we will not be completing the mating." I stand up and walk into the bathroom, slamming the door.

Jace's POV

I stare at the door Raelynn slammed in anger. Why can't she see that I just want to keep her safe? I leave her room and go in search of my father. Maybe he will have some advice. Maybe I should also tell him that Raelynn and I are fated mates.

I walk into my father's office and see him combing over books.

"What are you looking for?" I ask as I sit in the adjorning chair.

"I am looking to see if there is any mention of a pack with a wolf dragon tattoo. Raelynn mentioned it and it is not a pack tattoo that I can find."

"Dad, have you ever had a disagreement with mom that she threatened not to be with you if she can't do something that she wants, when she wants to."

"I don't deny your mother much, if anything. Why do you ask?" he says looking up from his books.

"Raelynn wants to shift in four days, and is pissed because I told her no because its not safe with the prisoner missing."

"I can see your point of wanting her to be safe, but shifting is important, especially for her first time. But how does that deny you anything? As alpha you can make sure that the pack has the security it need to allow her this, and a safe pack run."

"Raelynn is my mate."

His eye shoot up to meet mine. "That is great! You've finally found your m-"

"If I deny her her first shift in four days, she refuses to mate with me."

"Oh. Well then you better not deny her this," he chuckles. "I can totally see the Royal in her now. They have always been known to be able to not feel the overwhelming mate bond, unlike the rest of the wolves. For a Royal, the mate bond is not all-consuming, only to help keep them safe, allowing them to stay focused on the task at hand. That is why the Goddess picked them to be Royals."

"So I need to allow her to shift, but what if something goes wrong? I can't lose her."

"You will be right there by her side. It will show her you will always be by her side."
