A Brand-New PowerPete stepped back from the trash bag he had just set on the curb and whirled around to face the sudden shuffling. At first, he suspected his mom was coming to ask about the empty trash can in her room. But he didn’t see her. Nothing lurked beneath her car parked in the driveway. Again, he heard a shuffling. Where was it coming from? Was it just his nerves? He remembered his new ability and focused on a nearby tree. A cat was stuck in it. Could it shuffle? Not likely. He eyed the house behind him with its white picket fence and well-pecked blueberry bush. Another dead end.
