Chapter No.12

420 Words
Our recent success in the business project still felt good when I asked Joel about a tricky subject. We went through a lot together, in work and life. It seemed like now was the time to talk about his family - it's something we all know is there but haven't said anything before. One night, we were sitting in Joel's living room and I breathed deeply. Then I looked into his eyes very carefully. "Joel, I've been wanting to tell you something," I started carefully. He looked at me, his face showed that he was ready to listen. "What's up, Olivia? I know you can tell me anything." I agreed, thankful for his understanding. "Joel, we've experienced so many things together. I really care about you a lot. I think it's the right time for me to see your family members not just as someone who works with them or is their friend but rather as an excited girlfriend." Joel's face showed a moment of doubt, and I knew he felt the pressure from his family. His family was rich and powerful, so meeting someone from a different background like me must have been scary. "Olivia, I don't not want you to meet my family," Joel started talking slowly and thoughtfully. "They are just... they expect things. They can judge a lot, especially about love. I don't want you to feel bad or judged." I stopped for a bit to understand his talk, thinking hard about what it could mean. I know the problems that can happen when different social and money backgrounds meet, but I won't let it hide how deep our link is. Joel, I understand your worry but believe in us. I trust in our bond, and I'm not scared of what your family thinks. I want them to see us as a pair, so they know what we have. I'm not asking you to do anything different; I just want be a part of your life all ways." He sighed, his shoulders loosening a bit. "Olivia, you are amazing and I really care about your feelings. All I need is some time to work out the way things should be done with my family since they want me to marry another rich man's daughter soon. This is not an easy task." I agreed and understood the seriousness of what was happening. "Joel, spend the time you need. Always remember that I'm here for you and believe if our bond is strong we can beat anything together."
