Hope's POV
By the time I got to school, my stomach was starting to hurt, and I was starting to feel warm all over, like there was heat inside my bones. Now the heat is nothing new to me. I mean, I live in Arizona. It's kinda what we are known for. But, this was not a heat from the sun it was like there was something inside of me. Maybe I am getting sick or something? Walking down the halls, counting down the hours till graduation and my birthday, it's on the same day, and then I can finally get out of here and not have to live with it. Monty Or Patricia. I heard the most annoying voice talking about some guy that she got to finally come out to see her.
"Asher is so hot! "My cousin knows him and has sent me so many pictures, I wouldn't mind having a go with him." Beverly or Bev, as she was known, was loudly saying. She was holding court and, as always, was talking about the newest guy that she was trying to bed. I don't know how she gets anything else done. But when she is chasing the next guy, at least she is leaving me alone.
Bev sees me and loudly calls out "Hope I didn't see you at prom. "What happened nobody wanted to go with you? Or is it that you are even too ashamed to be seen in places you don't belong?" and starts laughing like a witch. What is wrong with this girl?
"Bev, I wasn't there because I see enough of your ugly face while I'm at school and when you come to the diner." I lied the thing that made me the most angry about Bev is that she was very pretty, in more of a supermodel way. She has long bleached blonde hair, pale blue eyes, and a very strong body. She is very fit as she spends a lot of time in the gym, even after her cheerleading practice.
"You b***h!!!" she yelled at me like I was the one that started this little argument. " You know that I was prom queen while you hid at your little job," she says as she shoves me into the lockers. I feel them biting into my skin and I know that is going to leave a bruise, great I can add it to my collection.
"Bev is right. You are pathetic. "It's been so hard to pretend that you are worth my time for the past 6 months," Bre, my best and only friend, says while she starts laughing and tosses her hair over her shoulder. The tears start to prick my eyes and my throat is tight with the emotion that I am feeling. How could she do this to me? I had told her all my plans and all of my secrets. Well, now I know why Bev the b***h singles me out all the time. Bre told her how I felt about her. "Bre? "What do you mean? You are my friend!" I stuttered out with the sadness that I felt in my voice. I hear this loud ringing in my ear like there is something in my head about to break free. I could hear everyone laughing loudly at me. "God, Hope you are pathetic. "No wonder your parents left you to be raised by strangers. "I was pretending I was bored, and it was funny to hear how much you let everyone walk all over you like the stupid doormat you are. " She snickers, my tears are flowing down my cheeks now. I'm still down on the floor and all of a sudden the most unbelievable thing happened. Water started bursting out of the drinking fountain, soaking both Bre and Bev. How did that happen? They were a good 10 feet away from the water source. I know that I wished that it would happen, but it couldn't be something that I did, could it? The air is now filled with the screams of the girls. If I hadn't been so shocked I would have laughed. I mean their makeup was running down their faces. Their hair stuck to them, they looked like drowned rats, but I was OK with that. The boys in the hall were laughing loudly. Matthew, the star football player and captain of all the sports teams, and Bev's ex-boyfriend was pointing. "BEV YOU LOOK OVER HERE, I HAVE TO GET A GOOD SHOT. THIS IS GONNA BE MY SCREENSAVER!" he laughed. I guess that he isn't too sad about her cheating on him. He is laughing so hard that his face is turning red. I see him turn my way, and now I'm scared. He gets creative with the way that he gets his fun at my expense. To my surprise, he just shrugs and walks away. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. I kept thinking about the water fountain and part of me thought that I was the reason it had shot out at them. With the school day over, and me finally getting something to eat at lunch, I was able to get through the day and ready to head for my shift at the local diner. I only have to get through two more days. Friday is the last day that I will be here, although I do have to change my plans because Bre knows them all, and I don't want to deal with any of these people ever again.
