Chapter 6
Jim kept the quick pace with Maerlis and Rob, but his thinking was considerably slower. It was one thing to walk around late at night, letting his mind wander and his body relax. Trying to force his brain into mystery solving mode without at least a few hours of rest wasn’t going to end well.
Thankfully Rob spoke up before Jim figured out how to, and before they got all the way back to the newer quarters.
“Listen Maer. I want to figure this out and I know Jim does too. But we’ve all got to get some rest.”
She kept charging ahead with the same determined stride until Rob touched her arm. Jim saw her shoulders rise and fall in a slow breath before she turned.
“I don’t think I can sleep. Not with starvation hanging over our heads. And all these kids…”
