Tangled Affairs: Chapter 1
Alexa's POV
The sound of the alarm woke me up from my sleep before the nightmares could, I woke up drenched in cold sweat, my hair was plastered all over my body, I brushed my damp hair away from my face, I looked around trying to gather my bearings, with a shaky hand, I reached out to turn off the Alarm clock, it was dark outside, the time was just 4:30am, I had timed the nightmares by now, anything after 4:30am and they would become too much to bear, it was then I noticed the chill in the room, I had fallen asleep wearing a tiny tank top and a pair of shorts, the book I had been reading the previous night lay abandoned on one side of the bed, slowly, I pushed the covers off my leg and climbed out of the bed, my feet slipped into the warm fluffy slippers by the side of my bed, with a rapidly beating heart and a shivering body, I headed to the bathroom.
As I stood in front of the mirror, I was greeted by a ghostly reflection, the girl In the mirror had long black hair that stopped mid back and was matted in sweat, her hair was scattered all over her arms, chest, back and face, her pale skin was a sharp contrast against her hair, her lush strawberry pink lips were chapped and broken, her rosy cheeks had dried tear stains on them, I hated my reflection this time of the day, I saw myself for who I really was “A broken 19 year old trying to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders”
Ever since my parents were murdered in cold blood before my very eyes, I was forced to grow up faster than I wanted to, I had lived with one goal until now, to get revenge on the son of a b***h who destroyed my life.
Fred Anderson, powerful business magnate, one of the most ruthless business man in New York city, I had devoted 9 years of my life to studying and learning all I could about Fred Anderson, 9 long years I had buried myself in books and studied harder than other kids my age, at 19 I was in final year at the New York school of business, my plan was already set to begin and soon enough, I will show Fred Anderson what pain really is, I will make him rue the day he was born.
The girl in the mirror smiled, it was sadistic and cold, I loved it, I reached for the tap head and the cold water rushed out, pouring into my cupped palms, I splashed the water on my face, it was soothing and comforting, my breathing was normal now and the cold was forgotten, the fire that in my heart was enough to melt ice, I gathered my hair and tied it in a pony tail, I washed my face properly and stared into the mirror again, the girl the mirror didn’t look as ghostly as she did before.
I smiled, today was a new day and a lot needed to be done.
************
I was greeted by the smell of strong coffee as I descended down the stairs by 7:30am, a small smile crossed my lips.
Mrs. Cruz was without doubt a kitchen Goddess, I had never learned to cook and I was sure that I would have died of starvation a long time ago if I didn’t have Mrs. Cruz, she had done her best to comfort me when I lost my parents, she had always taken care of me and for that, I will forever be grateful, she and Xander were the only family I had now and I would protect them with my last breath if it ever came down to it.
“Alexa, you are just in time for breakfast” Mrs. Cruz said to me as I sat at the breakfast table, Xander was there as well, I had begged them to eat at the table with me 9 years ago after Mum and Dad had died, they had been reluctant at first but they finally gave in, it just kinda stuck as the years went by and I was glad for it.
“The coffee is great as always Mrs. Cruz “ I said with a smile after taking a sip from my coffee,
Mrs. Cruz gave hearty laugh, her round rosy cheeks were bright anytime she smiled, her silver hair was pulled back in a single braid that she always rolled around her head, she was the perfect candidate for grandma of the year award.
“Eat up child, you need to leave for the office soon, you can’t be late on your first day” Mrs. Cruz said
“Yes Mrs. Cruz” I said and focused on my breakfast.
Today was my first day working in my father's company, Roy & Roy Enterprise, ever since my father’s death, it was run by my dad’s best friend, Finn Gerald who was the Vice President of the company back then, he had been very supportive in the past and had lent helpful advice and inputs during my first years in school, he had watched over the company diligently over the years and I will be joining today as CEO in training, this was a crucial part in my plan, Finn was the one person who knew about my desire for revenge, he had tried talking me out of it one too many times but I remain adamant in my resolve, after tying for so long, he finally yielded to me and had promised to help me in all the possible ways he could.
