I didn’t plan to come home that early.
Meetings dragged on forever, everyone was at each other's throats, and my stomach felt like it was literally trying to kill me. To top it off, the rain was coming down so hard that the road just turned into a blurry, gray mess.
I should’ve stayed at the office and slept there. I should’ve done anything except drive back with my head full of Aria-shaped static.
Then I saw her.
The car was pulled up near the gate with hazard lights blinking softly in the rain. The door opened, and Aria stepped out without an umbrella.
Rain soaked her hair almost instantly, dark strands clinging to her cheeks and neck. She leaned down slightly, said something I couldn’t hear through the windshield, then shut the door. The car rolled away.
