Sophia. There was nothing more we could do right now. I should go home and rest. Those were the words being said to me, but I wasn’t really listening to the doctor who was talking to us. I couldn’t do anything but stare at my son. If it wasn’t or all the tube and beeping machines, I would have thought he was just asleep. “No.” My voice was strangled. And Dimitri’s arm around me tightened slightly. A mall squeeze to try and draw my attention back to him. It would take more than that. “Sophia, we need to go home for a little while. Just a few hours. To...” I didn’t let him finish. “No.” I repeated. Just as softly. “Sophia?” Dimitri sounded exasperated. And who could blame him. I was guessing this wasn’t what he had in mind when he thought about his reunion with his son.
