On my first day back, breakfast was waiting on my desk. There was no note, but the paper bag held the ham sandwich and yogurt I bought most often, along with a cinnamon roll. Arthur loved cinnamon rolls. I didn't. I left it outside his office. The next morning, there was no cinnamon roll in the bag. Every morning, Arthur parked outside my building and asked whether I wanted to ride with him. After I refused twice, he stopped asking. He merely watched through the car window when I left home.
