Chapter 5: A Hasty Departure
As Ava turned to leave, Caesar couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. He had been enjoying their conversation, and he wasn't ready for it to end. There was something about Ava that drew him in, something that made him want to know more about her.
"Leaving so soon?" Caesar asked, his voice tinged with a hint of disappointment. He took a step forward, his eyes locked onto Ava's.
Ava turned back to him, a sly smile spreading across her face. "I have more important things to attend to," she said, her voice dripping with indulgence. "Like my nails, for instance. They're in dire need of a manicure."
Caesar raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Ava's sassiness. "And I'm sure your nails are the most pressing matter on your agenda," he said, his tone laced with amusement. He took another step forward, his eyes never leaving Ava's.
Ava laughed, her eyes glinting with arrogance. "You have no idea," she said. "My nails are my crowning glory. I spend hours each week ensuring they're perfectly manicured."
Caesar chuckled, enjoying the banter between them. "I'm sure they're worth it," he said. "But I still can't help but feel that you're running away from something."
Ava's smile faltered for a moment, and Caesar caught a glimpse of something more beneath the surface. A flicker of fear, perhaps, or a hint of vulnerability. But it was quickly replaced by her usual confidence.
"I'm not running away from anything," Ava said, her voice firm. "I'm simply choosing to prioritize my own needs. And if that means leaving you standing in a graveyard, then so be it."
Caesar felt a surge of curiosity at Ava's words. What was she hiding? What secrets was she keeping beneath her polished exterior? He took another step forward, his eyes locked onto Ava's.
"I see," Caesar said, his voice low and smooth. "Well, in that case, I won't keep you. But before you go, may I ask, what brings you to this graveyard?"
Ava's eyes flashed with a hint of wariness, and for a moment, Caesar thought he saw a glimmer of something more beneath the surface. But then, her mask slipped back into place, and she smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement.
"Oh, just passing by and decided to cry to the heavens on behalf of the faithful departed, you know that's part of my calling". Ava said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You know how it is."
Caesar raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Ava's evasiveness. "I think I do," he said. "But I also think there's more to it than that."
Ava's smile faltered for a moment, and Caesar caught a glimpse of something more beneath the surface. But then, she turned and walked away, leaving Caesar to watch her go with a mixture of admiration and intrigue.
As Caesar stood there, lost in thought, What had brought her to the graveyard, but wait, the graveyard isn't a place anyone can just pay a visit like that. What the hell was on my mind when I asked her that question?" he smiled at his foolishness, but why was she in such a haste?what was she running from?
