“George!” Murdoch sat his considerable frame opposite Watters’ desk. “We had a strange thing at the station last night.”
“What was that, Murdoch?” Watters poured two mugs of tea and passed over a brown poke of sugar. He watched Murdoch add three teaspoons of sugar and a finger of milk.
“Do you remember you recommended we put a constable on permanent watch for the yard?”
“Of course. Why?”
“Well, last night, a woman propositioned him.”
