POV Caius:
I stood next to the bed of the man who came in as a demon just a few hours ago. If this worked and she really did burn the demon, then this means we might have a way of saving those possessed rather than to kill them. Still, I have no idea how she did this, but I do hope she’ll choose to stay.
The nurse entered his room.
“Sir, what happened to this man?” she asked.
“He was possessed by a demon. We brought him in for questioning and the demon was burned out of him. So, I need you to examine him and tell me if there is any damage to him or his memory.” I turned ready to leave when she stopped me.
“Sir? How is it you burned the demon?” she asked with worry in her voice. I turned to give her the same worried look.
“I’m not really sure, but I will find out.” She gave me a nod and continued examining the man.
As I walked out, Ajax was waiting for me outside.
“You look like shit.” he said with a pat on my back. I laughed at his remark.
“Thanks.” I can’t even remember when the last time I had actually slept. He came and stood in front of me with both hands on my shoulders.
“Hey, go to bed and sleep, you are not needed right now. If anyone needs you, I’ll take care of it. You can’t take care of us if you don’t take care of yourself first.” He gave me a playful wink and waited for my reply.
“I’ll be in my room but if anything happens you call me,” I said seriously.
“Yeah yeah, you know I will.” He pushed me to my room.
“Oh, and Ajax!” I called over my shoulder.
“No one needs to know about her, is that clear?” He threw his thumbs in the air as he walked away.
I finally reached my room and closed the door behind me. I was so tired and yet I didn’t think I would be able to sleep. I took a turn in my room and sat down on one of the leather couches. I tilted my head to the back and ran my hand through my hair. I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. I tried to relax but my head was racing with everything happening. I have 4 groups of warriors in the field. Two of my tech teams are looking into Rebecca’s case. Rebecca, one of our best undercover warriors MIA, two badly injured warriors in the hospital wing, a once possessed man and then there is her…
I have a million questions and yet I don’t think I want to know. When I close my eyes, I see her, her hands every time I tie them together, her eyes every time I touch her skin, her wet hair when she comes out of the shower, her body covered in only my t-shirt…. A knock came at the door before I drifted off.
“Come in!”
Ajax came in carrying two trays.
“Hey, I brought you dinner before you forget to eat as well.” I smiled and took one of the trays and he dropped down on the couch in front of me.
“You better eat everything; we don’t want you to lose muscle. I'd feel bad if I kicked your ass while training.” He teased.
“That will never happen.” We laughed and started eating.
“So, are we going to talk about what happened this morning?” Ajax asked.
I looked at him for a moment. Ajax and I grew up together. We’ve been best friends since we were five years old. His parents fought with me when they were warriors. We could have a full conversation without using any words. So, when he said he wanted to talk about this morning, it had nothing to do with the warriors or the demon. He was talking about my behaviour, and I knew better than to lie to my best friend.
“I don’t know what to tell you, there is something about her that makes me curious to know.” He chuckled.
“So, this has nothing to do with her ridiculously good looks?” I laughed at him.
Ajax was known for being the dangerous guy, the one-night stand, the one all the girls wanted in their beds. As for me, I’ve always been too busy to notice. My parents had me focused on The Halo since birth, so I was always too busy. I had my fun times, sneaking away, being young and having fun, but since I took over The Circle, I haven’t gotten close to anyone. That’s why my fascination with Ariel seemed out of place.
“Well,’ I’m not blind, I did notice, but no, that’s not what piqued my curiosity. Still, I won’t be able to answer that question because I still don’t know yet. But I do promise to tell you when I know.”
“Deal. Now what are the plans from here on?” He stood up and took my plate.
“Well, I made her an offer to stay and to help us or she could be a prisoner for a while longer. If there is no harm done to the guy who was possessed, then this could be a huge breakthrough for us.” I stood up to walk with him.
“Hmmm I don’t know, I kind of enjoy killing them.” I laughed and shook my head.
“You need your head examined. Will you please ask Rafael and Ariel to come to my office as soon as they are done eating?”
“Sure” he said and walked away.
