Sebastian woke to the sensation of something warm curled against his side and the faint sound of hushed giggles. His body felt sluggish, his head heavy, but as his senses sharpened, he recognized the soft weight of Amelia tucked against him, her small hands gripping the blanket. His eyes fluttered open, only to find her face inches from his, studying him with wide-eyed curiosity. “Daddy, you look funny,” she whispered, her voice tinged with a mixture of concern and amusement. Her doe eyed him curiously. Elliott, perched at the foot of the bed, nodded solemnly. “Yeah. You’re all sweaty and weird.” Sebastian blinked, his fever-dazed mind sluggishly processing the sight of his children hovering over him like two tiny sentinels. It wasn’t often they saw him anything less than invincible.
