The morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Isabelle’s office, casting long golden streaks across the polished desk. The city stretched out below in its usual rush of movement and sound, but today Isabelle barely saw it. Her eyes rested on the stack of reports in front of her, but the numbers blurred together.
