~ Elena’s POV ~
The forest outside the cabin was alive with whispers and shadows. I had trained all morning, sweat dripping down my temples, hands glowing faintly as I pushed my power to its limits. Darius Vincent Bloodthorn watched silently, offering corrections when needed, praise when I succeeded.
“You’re improving faster than I anticipated,” he said, voice calm, almost amused. “But don’t let your emotions take control. The bond will punish you if you’re reckless.”
I nodded, biting my lip. Every lesson was harder than the last, but I was determined. I would not be weak—not again.
And yet, beneath the determination, a flicker of unease lingered. Something in the forest felt… wrong. My bond pulsed erratically, an insistent warning I could not ignore.
Before I could react, a chilling laugh sliced through the trees, sharp and cruel.
“Elena Rose Carter,” the voice hissed, silk and venom combined. “How naïve you are… thinking you’re safe.”
I froze. The wind shifted, carrying the scent I knew all too well. Luna Seraphina. The Luna of Kael Alexander Nightshade’s pack—and my sworn enemy.
Darius stiffened beside me, blue eyes scanning the treeline. “Stay close,” he warned, hand brushing mine. “She’s here for a reason.”
I swallowed hard, fists glowing faintly as I focused. The bond pulsed violently, Kael Alexander Nightshade’s presence surging inside me like a warning and a tether all at once. My pulse quickened, fear and adrenaline sparking a dangerous mix.
From the shadows, Luna emerged, elegant and lethal, her silver eyes glinting with malice. “Training? How cute. But no one survives without a guide… and I’ve come to claim what is mine.”
I growled, instinctively raising my hands. Energy surged, bright and hot, illuminating the clearing. “Stay back!” I shouted, voice trembling but strong. “I’m not afraid of you!”
Luna’s laugh rang sharp, like a blade. “You should be afraid, little human.”
Darius stepped in front of me, jaw tight, posture defensive. “Back off, Seraphina,” he said evenly, but firm. “This isn’t your fight.”
Luna tilted her head, smirking. “Oh, but it is. You’ve been teaching her, Bloodthorn… showing her powers she cannot control. Dangerous for her—and for everyone.”
The air thickened, energy thrumming. My hands flared brightly as the bond responded violently. Kael Alexander Nightshade’s voice echoed in my mind, low and desperate:
Mine. She is mine. You will not touch her.
The surge of power from him was intoxicating, fierce, and almost unbearable. My chest burned as the bond reacted, pulsing like a drum, warning, demanding, warning me to protect myself.
Without thinking, I released a blast of energy, a shimmering arc of light that knocked Luna off her feet. Her scream cut through the forest, a mix of rage and shock.
But she was fast—too fast. She landed gracefully, like a predator, her eyes locking on me with pure venom. “Impressive,” she hissed. “But not enough.”
Before I could prepare again, a series of shadowy figures—her loyal pack members—emerged, encircling us. I tensed, energy blazing.
Darius placed a hand on my shoulder. “Stay calm. Focus your power—don’t let fear control it.”
I nodded, channeling the bond. The energy surged from my hands, bright and sharp, forming a barrier that shimmered and crackled. Every instinct screamed to attack, to defend, to survive.
And then he was there.
Kael Alexander Nightshade appeared from the treeline, silent as death, his wolf growling beneath the surface. His silver eyes locked on Luna, and the air itself seemed to tremble. “Back off, Seraphina,” he growled, voice low, lethal. “She is mine. I will not warn you again.”
Luna snarled, but she hesitated. Even she knew the danger Kael represented. His presence amplified my bond, and I could feel my power intensifying in response. Together, we were unstoppable.
Energy flared from me, bright and scorching, sweeping across the clearing. The shadows of her pack recoiled, stumbling back. Luna hissed, eyes narrowed, and then vanished into the mist, leaving a trail of malicious laughter behind.
I sank to my knees, panting, my hands trembling as the energy faded. Darius crouched beside me, concern written across his face. “Are you okay?”
I nodded weakly, chest still burning, bond pulsing in sync with Kael Alexander Nightshade’s furious presence. The bond throbbed insistently, a tether to him I couldn’t ignore, and a warning that the storm was only beginning.
Kael’s voice whispered in my mind again, low, desperate, dangerous:
Elena Rose Carter… you are mine. No one will ever harm you—not while I breathe.
I closed my eyes, trying to steady myself. Fear and exhilaration coursed through me. My power was growing. My bond was alive. And my destiny… my destiny was just beginning.
The forest outside held its breath, waiting. And I knew, deep in my soul, that this was only the first of many battles to come.
