~ Elena’s POV ~
The forest had never felt colder.
I ran blindly, branches clawing at my jacket, my heart hammering in my chest. My mind screamed at me to stop, to think… but all I could hear was Kael’s voice:
“Elena Rose Carter… leave. You are not my mate.”
His rejection burned deeper than the icy wind on my skin. Every step I took, the bond inside me pulsed, stubborn, defiant, reminding me that no matter what he said, we were connected.
I stumbled into a clearing I didn’t recognize. Mist curled around my ankles, and moonlight filtered through the trees like silver blades.
A shadow moved ahead. Tall. Powerful. Confident.
I froze.
“Who’s there?” My voice trembled, but I forced it to carry.
The figure stepped forward, and the moonlight revealed his features. Dark hair, sharp jawline, piercing blue eyes that glowed faintly—like a predator sizing up prey.
“Relax,” he said, his voice smooth but dangerous. “I’m not here to hurt you… unless you give me a reason.”
I swallowed hard, my knees threatening to give out. “Who… who are you?”
He smiled, just slightly, enough to send a chill down my spine.
“Darius Vincent Bloodthorn,” he said, his tone confident, commanding. “And you, Elena Rose Carter… are far more important than you realize.”
My heartbeat skipped. The bond in my chest throbbed violently, reacting to his presence—different, stronger, yet strangely comforting.
I didn’t understand. Another Alpha? How could there be another? And why did my chest feel… lighter, somehow, when he was near?
Before I could ask, a low growl echoed through the trees.
I turned, heart stopping. Silver eyes glinted in the shadows—Kael.
He had followed me. Watching. Silent. Deadly. His expression was unreadable, but the tension in the air screamed: he knows.
I wanted to run… but I couldn’t move. My body was frozen between two powerful men, both dangerous, both Alpha.
And me… just a human girl.
~ Kael’s POV (Inner Conflict, Short Insert) ~
She’s here. With him.
I growled low in my throat, my wolf restless, furious.
Darius Vincent Bloodthorn. Dangerous. Powerful. A rival I’ve battled before… yet he touches her, speaks to her, and my blood boils in ways it never should.
This bond… it’s mine.
I will not allow another Alpha to claim what is fated to me.
Not human.
Not rival.
Mine.
