~ Elena’s POV ~ The cabin was quiet except for the soft crackle of the fire. Outside, the forest stretched endlessly into the mist, hiding all the dangers that waited. I had never felt so exposed—and so alive. Darius Vincent Bloodthorn stood near the doorway, tall and imposing, but his eyes softened slightly as he looked at me. “Tonight, we begin,” he said, his voice low, calm, yet carrying a power that made the air thrum. “Begin what?” I asked, clutching the blanket tighter around my shoulders. My heart raced, and my body still throbbed from the events of the last few days. Kael’s rejection… the pack’s judgment… the bond pulsing uncontrollably in my chest. It had left me raw, confused, and afraid. “Control,” Darius said, stepping closer. He crouched slightly to meet my eyes. “Your bond with Kael Alexander Nightshade is alive. Strong. Dangerous. And if you don’t learn to control it, it will destroy you… and anyone around you.” I swallowed hard, the words settling deep in my chest. “Control… how?” My voice sounded smaller than I wanted it to. Darius’s lips curved into a faint, teasing smile. “By learning to feel your power, Elena Rose Carter. By accepting it, not running from it. Right now, you are human. Weak. But the bond inside you… it is far stronger than you know.” I could feel it—a warmth pulsing in my chest, like molten fire trapped beneath fragile skin. My hands tingled, my heart pounding in sync with it. And somewhere in the back of my mind, Kael’s name whispered, taunting, reminding me of what I had lost. “Start simple,” Darius instructed, placing his palm a few inches from mine. “Feel the energy between us. Don’t think—feel. Let the bond guide you.” I hesitated. Every instinct screamed to pull away. Kael’s words still rang in my ears. You are not my mate. You do not belong. But at the same time… the bond screamed louder than ever. It pulsed against my chest like a heartbeat, demanding attention. I reached out slowly, my palm hovering above his. The air between us shimmered faintly. I gasped as warmth spread from his hand into mine, threading through me like fire. I could feel the pulse—the bond with Kael reacting, thrumming like a warning, an invisible leash tugging at me. Darius’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Good… now push. Don’t resist. Let it flow through you.” I closed my eyes. The warmth grew, spreading into my limbs, into my chest. The fire in me rose. I could hear it—Kael’s silver eyes, watching, judging, roaring in frustration somewhere far away in the forest. I could feel him, pulsing in tandem with the bond, furious. “Kael Alexander Nightshade,” I whispered aloud, not thinking, not caring. The words hung in the air. Darius stiffened slightly, his blue eyes locking onto mine, a spark of warning there, but also… satisfaction. I opened my eyes to see the glow surrounding my palm stronger now, the energy radiating off me, uncontained, alive. I stumbled backward, breathing hard. “That’s… amazing,” Darius breathed, but his expression darkened. “You’re more powerful than I thought… but be careful. Kael… he will not stand by.” The warning settled in my chest like ice. I had no doubt Kael would come. Always. His pride, his rage, his bond… he would not let me train under another Alpha without interference. I hadn’t been wrong. The sudden rustle in the trees outside froze me. My heart leapt into my throat. A shadow emerged from the mist—tall, broad, silver eyes flashing in the moonlight. Kael Alexander Nightshade. “Step away from him,” Kael growled, his voice carrying over the distance, low and lethal. The ground seemed to tremble beneath the weight of his presence. I wanted to shrink, to hide—but the energy thrumming in me refused. “I’m not stepping away,” I said, my voice trembling but firm. “I’m learning. Something… I don’t understand yet, but I have to.” Kael’s eyes narrowed, his wolf growling deep inside him. “Elena Rose Carter… you don’t understand what you’re doing. That power is dangerous. And Darius Vincent Bloodthorn… you are trespassing.” Darius didn’t flinch. He stood tall, confident, eyes flashing, hands relaxed but ready. “Kael… let her learn. You rejected her, but that doesn’t mean you own her fate. She’s stronger than you realize, and if you can’t see that… she will be lost to you.” Kael’s jaw tightened. His silver eyes glinted dangerously. “Lost? She will never belong to another Alpha. Not you. Not anyone.” The tension between them was almost unbearable. I could feel the bond pulsing stronger, reacting to their conflict. My chest burned, my palms tingled, and my heart felt like it could shatter from the pressure. I wanted to speak… to stop them. But no words came. My body trembled, caught between two forces I couldn’t control. Then Darius stepped closer, just enough for the bond to respond. The glow around my hands intensified. The forest seemed to lean closer, holding its breath. Kael’s growl deepened, low and dangerous. “Elena Rose Carter… step back from him. Now.” I met his gaze, and something inside me refused. The bond flared violently, reacting to the tension, the anger, the possessiveness… and for the first time, I realized the truth: I was not weak. I was not fragile. And I belonged to no one… yet everyone wanted a part of me. Kael’s wolf pressed forward, furious, desperate. Darius’s presence was grounding, steady, but equally powerful. And I… I was the center of the storm, trembling, alive, and more awake than I had ever been in my life. “You hear me, Elena Rose Carter?” Kael said, his silver eyes piercing mine. “Step back. Now.” “I… I won’t,” I whispered, my voice barely audible, yet unwavering. “I need to learn. I need to understand myself… and this bond.” Kael’s fists clenched, his knuckles white, the wolf inside him restless and roaring. He took a step forward, dangerous, threatening—but he stopped. His pride battled with desire, with the bond pulsing between us, stronger than any obstacle he could imagine. Darius’s eyes flicked to Kael, a challenge, a warning, but also… respect. “She will learn… and when she does, Kael Alexander Nightshade… you’ll see what fate has truly claimed.” The fire in my chest flared again. I could feel the bond throbbing, connecting me to Kael and the power inside me. I was no longer just human. I was something… more. And the storm around us—the pack, the forest, the Alphas—would never let me forget it.
