Kael’s Inner Conflict

402 Words
~ Kael’s POV ~ The forest was silent. Too silent. My senses screamed, but my mind refused to believe what it smelled, what it knew. She was human. Weak. Fragile. And yet… She was mine. I stalked closer, the mist curling around my boots, my eyes never leaving her trembling form. Her scent was intoxicating—sweet, pure, alive. And it drove my wolf into madness. This cannot be. I clenched my jaw, feeling the pack’s power thrumming in my veins, a warning I ignored. Humans are not meant to be mated with. And yet, the bond had snapped in place. The moment I saw her, it was done. My wolf howled inside me, desperate, claiming. Her golden-brown hair fell across her face as she hugged herself, trembling. She didn’t even know. She had no idea. I wanted to growl, to take her and keep her, to tear the world apart for her. But no. The pack… the law… my pride. I straightened, stepping from the shadows. My eyes, silver and cold as moonlight, locked onto hers. “Human…” I growled low, my voice carrying authority. She froze. I took another step, and the forest seemed to lean closer, holding its breath. “You are mine,” I said, and the words were instinct, not thought. Then the pack came into view, shadows among shadows. I saw the judgment in their eyes. The murmurs, the whispered disbelief. I swallowed hard. I cannot let them see this. I turned my gaze back to her, sharp, cold. “You are… unacceptable,” I spat, my voice echoing through the trees. Her eyes widened, heart racing, lips parting in fear and confusion. “Kael Alexander Nightshade,” I said, my tone like ice, the words carrying the weight of my name and authority, “I reject this bond. You will not be my mate.” The forest seemed to shiver at my declaration. Her body stiffened. She looked… broken. Helpless. And yet… I felt it. The bond still pulsed between us, stubborn, defiant. I turned abruptly, my cloak flaring as I disappeared into the shadows of the forest, leaving her trembling figure behind. Fate may have tried to claim her… but I will not. But even as I walked away, the wolf in me growled, hungry and frustrated. She is mine. And I will not let another Alpha claim what is fated to me.
