Jade's POV
Today was the 'D ' day. The day i dreaded most was finally here. I am currently sitting on a.bed in one of the rooms in the Wayne's mansion as two pretty girls dress me up. It's like i've been sitting for hours. They were done with my hair and was currently baking my face with make up. Not that i hate making up as a matter of fact i liked it on people but i didn't have that kind of patience to sit and try it on myself. There were few occasions when i did and i ended up looking like a clown.
It's been over four hours now and my butt was beginning to ache. I wasn't even allowed to see what they were doing . sighing i tried to focus on something to pass by time.
"Almost done". One of the ladies said. They had said the same thing about an hour ago. I just sat there staring into space as they did whatever they were doing to my poor face.
"And done". The.other lady said. Thank God i sighed in relief
"Now you can look at your beautiful self". One of them said beckoning me to stand up as she walked towards the mirror. Standing by the mirror all I could do was stare.
In front of me stood a beautiful georgeus radiant sophisticated girl who could pass for a princess. Her cheeks were glowing her lips were painted in red inviting and enticing. Her hair was tied up in a neat bun, her gown was beautiful flowing down her length. She looked perfect. But one look in her eyes and one could tell she wasn't happy. Her eyes were sad pain was written across them. Sure she wore a smile but it didn't reach her eyes. Her eyes were sad, dead even. The flame in it was gradually quenching the brightness was fading. One close look and you could tell she doesn't want to be here.
"Jade, are you ready". Grandma spoke causing me to direct my gaze at her
"Wow you look beautiful. Just like your m mum o on h her wedding d day". She started as tears threatened to fall. I wanted to tell her that i didn't feel beautiful that if anything i didn't want to be here. But i also didn't want to be selfish and ruin her mood she looked so happy and that's all that mattered
"Thanks ma". I said faking a smile
"You've got a minute before you walk dowm the aisle you ready?
“I think so just as I finished speaking the door burst open revealing Mr wayne. He had offered to walk me down the aisle or in my case through the grass. Considering the fact that the wedding was taking place in Wayne's garden. I had initially asked grandma but she said it would be off if she did. The look on his face wasn't pleasant at all, like he was troubled.
"What's wrong? I asked, wearing a confused expression, was I late or something. I thought grandma said they were starting in a minute. Mr Wayne sighed and placed his hands in his pockets looking more agitated.
"We couldn't find Grey". Greg spoke from behind him. I didn't even notice he was there.
"What do you mean you couldn't find Grey? Grandma asked as panic laced her voice while I just stood there rooted to that very spot. All kinds of thoughts flooded my mind. Was he kidn*pped? Dead? Or did he seriously abandon me on our wedding day? If anything I should be the one on the run. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the room was now full till Rachael spoke.
"It's for the better". "I say we cancel the wedding right this minute. I mean it's obvious Grey doesn't want this''. She suggested shooting a glare my way. I knew that she wasn't really my fan a few days back when she came to drop my wedding gown. She just introduced herself and in her words; 'My brother already has a girlfriend which I'm sure you're well aware of. She's also my best friend so pardon me if I really don't like you'. She went straight for the kill not bothering to pretend and I respect her for that. So I wasn't surprised at how hard she's currently glaring at me.
"I think Rachael is right, Hun". Sage said, resting a hand on her husband's chest. Great mother daughter and son do not fancy me.
"Everyone out". Mr Wayne sneered and everyone hurried out the door. Grandma's hand tightened around mine. "Please Veronica, can you leave me and Jade alone for a while". He said looking at grandma politely. Grandma glanced my way and I gave her an assuring smile. She squeezed my hand and left.
"Where do you think he'll be? Mr Wayne inquired looking my way. Just as I was about to say I had no idea, Greg answered from beside him. I thought he'd left with the others.
I have been to his apartment and his mansion. He isn't there. So my guess is the penthouse. Greg said.
"Have you tried calling? Mr Wayne inquired further.
"Yes but he isn't picking up".
"Then go and check the penthouse". Mr Wayne barked at Greg. Poor guy suffering because of that jerk. I just stood there watching the exchange between them. Maybe this prayer was answered, maybe God was giving us a sign, maybe Rachael was right. Greg slightly bowed in respect and left.
Mr Wayne walked towards me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "You look beautiful Jade and I'm glad to have you as a daughter in-law". He said with so much sincerity. At least someone liked me.
"I know Grey may prove a little bit too much but he was not always this way trust me. He will come around soon when he sees what I see in you I promise". I mentally scoffed at that 'may prove', more like he's proving. Instead of saying that I nodded. I was still in shock at what just happened to a missing groom 'the runaway groom'. The way I'd pictured my wedding it was I who was late. My husband would be waiting for me at the altar, not the other way around. Yet here we are a bride waiting for her groom.
it has been 30 or so minutes now since Greg went to fund him. I just sat there thinking. Grandma had come several times to check on me but I told her I was fine. Honestly speaking I wasn't. I was embarrassed. I wonder what they told the guest. A knock on the door jolted me from my thoughts. Grandma slowly walked in.
"I'm fine I just need to be alone". I spoke before she said anything.
"I'm just here to tell you it's starting now". I looked at her confused. "Grey is here" she explained further. So he wasn't dead nor kidn*pped nor did he run away. He just decided to show up late. Standing up I walked towards the door.
"You okay? She asked, concern lacing her voice. "Derick is waiting outside." She added. I gave her a hug telling her I was fine but in reality, all I wanted to do was curl up and cry.
As I walked towards the garden, music played to usher me in. As grandma said Mr Wayne was waiting for me. I walked towards him and locked my hands with his. As we moved forwards I turned out the music and focused on Greyson. He was standing in front wearing a black tuxedo with black inner and black suit pants. The only thing that wasn't black was the white bow tie. Yes, you heard right my husband was dressed for a funeral on his wedding day. I must admit though black was definitely his colour. He just stood there looking like a s*x god. We stopped in front of him and Mr Wayne placed my hands on Grey's. Now I had a close look at him, he had bags under his eyes. His hair was messy like he just got out of the shower. He didn't even look my way not once and yet here I was gawking at him. Standing beside him was Greg, his best man. He, unlike Grey, wore a white tuxedo, red inner, and white suit pants. He looked more handsome than when we last saw him. He caught me staring and winked causing me to blush.
I tuned out what the minister was saying and stared at the people who were present. Some faces were familiar, others weren't. The number of people present wasn't more than 50. I noticed Grandma seated beside Aunt Rose and a girl was also at the other end of Aunt Rose. She looked familiar but I couldn't recall where or when I saw her.
The hold of Greyson's hand on me tightened. I gave him a confused look. "Do you Miss Jade take Mr Greyson Wayne to be your lawfully wedded husband? The minister asked. Oh... he must have asked before I wasn't paying attention. His hand squeezed mine again reminding me I was yet to answer.
"I do".
"Do you Mr Greyson Wayne take Miss Jade Stones as your lawfully wedded wife?
"I do". He answered without wasting a second. I now pronounce you husband and wife you may kiss the bride. What? I hadn't thought this through. I totally forgot about the kissing part. Greyson uncovered my veil and cupped my cheeks with his hands. At this point, my heart was pounding furiously any moment from now and it'll explode. Greyson leaned in angling my head to the side and placed a kiss just below my mouth but to those who were watching it was like we actually kissed. He hurriedly released me.
Ladies and gentlemen Mr. and Mrs Greyson Wayne. Immediately applause filled the air. I glanced at Greyson and he gave me a look that screamed
Welcome to hell wife.
