I felt carried by strong arms, and I smelt the whiff of his aftershave.
After a while, I woke up, and I cannot move my arm. I noticed that an IV tied my arm. I saw Ramona by my side.
“Ramona, why do I have this?”
“You fainted again. And this time Nicholas made sure that you were checked by a doctor. And he was right, something is wrong.”
“What? Am I sick?”
I felt anxious
“Don’t worry, you were just dehydrated and that tube there will give you what you need. For now, take your rest so you can go home the day after tomorrow.”
I didn’t show any happiness in my expression or excitement that I can finally go home.
“What’s wrong? You can go home tomorrow because another bag of this juice needs to go through those veins.”
“It’s not that. Nicholas showed me a video last night.”
And I paused. Ramona held my hand
“He showed it to me because I was asking him what happened and why you fainted.”
“I don’t know how I can face that reality.”
“Did you have some hint before that he was cheating on you?”
And I raised my eyebrows and my shoulders, then I shook my head.
Ramona came to me and hugged me. I felt my tears slowly form inside my eyes and drop to my cheeks loved a child who was taken from her mother’s arm. I felt all the hurt bloom inside me as I placed my head over Ramona’s shoulder as we hugged.
“Let it out, let all the pain come out so that you can later heal.”
She held me tightly while she massaged my back to calm me. As my sobs die down, she loosened her grasp and tried to face me. Her hands went to the sides of my face to catch my attention.
“You will be okay. The guy is not worth your beauty and your kindness. Cry now, stand, and heal. Then, move on.”
I nodded as her hands lightly held my face. Then she wiped my tears and smiled at me. A phone ring came from her phone and she answered.
I cannot hear the voice of the person on the other side but it seems that they were talking about me. The last words that Ramona said were.
“Alright, I will be there in a sec.”
And she winked at me as she hung up the phone.
“Take your rest now. Eloisa will bring you some fruit and food. Eat well, rest, and be better tomorrow.”
“I will. Thank you.”
And with some thinking of the past, I realized that Jonas gave some gestures that he was having an affair, but I disregarded them, blinded by the love that I have for him. Tears would sometimes form and drop at the sides of my eyes. In my solitude, I calmed and slept.
I woke up while a doctor was checking on me.
“Oh good, you’re awake. How are you? How do you feel?”
I answered in a sleepish manner.
“I think I am better.”
My eyes roamed and saw the doctor, Ramona, another female who looks like a nurse, and Nicholas who looked so concerned about what I had to say. Then the doctor asked.
“Are you pregnant, because your fainting might be caused by pregnancy as well?”
My eyebrows frowned.
“No, how will I?”
With those words, I saw Nicholas's jaw clench and his visage softened as his eyes sparkled.
“So, with that, this is your last bag and you’re free to go.”
“Thank you, doctor.”
“But you need to take some supplements for faster recovery and better nourishment.”
And I just nodded my head.
Ramona suddenly butted and spoke.
“I will prepare some food now for that recuperation you need.”
I shyly smiled at all of them and gave my gratitude. Ramona went out of the room smiling at me.
“Ok, my nurse will be back later to take this out.”
The doctor looked at the lady who was wearing a neat scrub suit as he pointed to the IV cord. Then he stood as he spoke to Nicholas on their way out of the room, but I know I saw Nicholas glance at me before he closed the door. I gave a big sigh and closed my eyes trying to contemplate what transpired. My rest deepened and a dream started to roll.
I was awakened when the nurse was taking out the IV that the doctor placed to rehydrate me. I muttered with blurry eyes.
“Am I done with that?”
“Yes. Rest and I will be out of the room later.”
“Thank you.”
And I went back to sleep.
Then a tap on my arm awakened me. My sleepy eyes saw Ramona
“Would you like to eat?”
With closed eyes, I nodded.
“I am quite famished.”
“Ok, you think you can walk?”
“Yeah, I guess I can.”
But before I was able to stand, my strength was gone and I went back to lie on the bed.
“I am a little dizzy yet.”
“I will just bring food here.”
In my mind there was anxiousness. What is happening to me? Am I bewitched or drugged? I am in an underworld environment, can it be that.....and I fell asleep again.
Ramona poked my arm.
“Your food is here, you need to eat to regain your strength.”
And she helped me slowly rise to sit on the bed so I can eat.
“Are you sure you are not pregnant?”
“Am I sick?”
“The doctor is puzzled by your case. Your vitals were all normal.”
“I couldn’t be pregnant, Ramona. I am still a virgin and I haven’t had any serious intimate affair.”
I am not sure if I can truly trust Ramona or if she is just bluffing just to pry on me.
“Your boyfriend?”
“He tried several times but I didn’t want to.”
“Eat, ao when you regain your strength, you can go home.”
I stared blankly at her as if tears started forming in the sides of my eyes.
“What is wrong?”
“Nothing. I just do not know what to do when I get home.”
But before she can ask another question her phone rings.
I can’t hear the person on the other line, but her last words were...
“She’s better now. Okay, I will accompany her to you.”
Then they both hang up.
“Fix yourself and let’s go to Nicholas.”
“Why?”
She just shrugged her shoulders and stood.
“I will wait for you outside.”
She went to the door and went out. I stood and went to the bathroom to freshen up. I hid my eye's puffiness with concealer, pencil, and mascara. Then puffed some powder and dabbed some lip color. Spraying some perfume on my hand to brush on my neck, my arms, and my clothes. I looked at the mirror and spoke to myself.
“You are worth more than that guy. Stand up and move on.”
I composed myself and went to the door.
When Ramona saw me.
“Hey, I like the aura.”
I smiled at her.
“Thanks to you. I can win this battle and be better.”
“That’s the spirit.”
She looked and flashed a laugh.
“Let’s go?”
“You bet.”
And we walked heading to the office of Nicholas. As we entered the room, his staff went out with Ramona.
“Oh sit down, Catherine.”
I smiled at him.
“Thank you.”
“You look a lot better now than the other day”
“Thank you for everything.”
“I will accompany you tomorrow and bring you home.”
I looked down at my fingers and fidgetted.
“Are you alright?”
I didn’t answer because tears whelmed up my eyes. He embraced me before they fell.
“It’s okay.”
And as I leaned my head on him tears flooded my cheeks. He didn’t question nor said a word, but just embraced me and brushed his hand on my back to pacify me. As my sobs softened and eventually stopped, he loosened his clasp.
“Are you okay now?”
And I nodded my head.
He separated his body from me so he can see my face.
“Do you feel better?”
He handed me a box of tissue. I took some pieces and wiped my eyes and nose.
“Thank you.”
He silently waited as I composed myself. Then he felt that I was ready to talk.
“Why?”
I looked at my fingers again and played with them as I spoke.
“I am not sure if I want to go home.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t think I can face Jonas.”
He was silent for minutes as if he can’t believe what he just heard. A stranger whom he literally kidnapped doesn’t want to go home?
“I understand how you feel.”
And I looked at him as if I wanted to cry again.
“Did you have a hint that he was cheating on you?”
I shook my head and I know he saw tears drop as my head shook.
“When you saw the video, it seems that....”
He paused for a while.
“I am not sure. But it seems you know who the girl is.”
And I looked down and nodded my head.
“You do? Who was it?”
