Chapter 7 — The Silver Pendant Maya ran deeper into the forest, following the sound of Adrian's howl. The trees became thicker, and the moonlight barely reached the ground. She could hear branches breaking somewhere ahead. Maya: Adrian! No answer. She stopped and listened. A soft growl came from behind her. Maya slowly turned. Adrian stood between the trees in his human form. His clothes were torn, and blood covered his shoulder. Maya rushed toward him. Maya: You're hurt. Adrian: It's nothing. Maya: Don't lie to me. She carefully examined the wound. Maya: What happened? Adrian looked away. Adrian: Darius happened. Maya: Where is he? Adrian: Gone. Maya noticed something was missing from his neck. Maya: Your pendant. Adrian touched his neck. His expression immediately changed. Adrian: He took it. Maya: What is so important about that pendant? Adrian remained silent. Maya: Adrian, please. He finally looked at her. Adrian: It belonged to my father. Maya: Your father? Adrian: The previous Alpha. Maya remembered what her father had told her. Maya: You're the future Alpha. Adrian looked surprised. Adrian: Your father told you? Maya nodded. Adrian: Then you know why I have to protect you. Maya: Because of the Moon Guardian? Adrian: Yes. Maya: Or because you made a promise to my father? Adrian became silent. Maya stepped closer. Maya: Which one is it? Adrian: Both. Maya looked into his golden eyes. Maya: Why do I feel like there's something else? Adrian didn't answer. Suddenly, Maya's mark began glowing. She grabbed her palm. Maya: It hurts. Adrian immediately held her hand. Adrian: Maya, breathe. The pain slowly disappeared. But a strange image appeared in Maya's mind. She saw Adrian as a young boy. He was standing beside her father. Then she saw herself as a child. She was crying. Adrian was holding her hand. Maya suddenly opened her eyes. Maya: I remember. Adrian froze. Maya: I remember you. Adrian stared at her. Adrian: What do you remember? Maya: You were there when I was little. Adrian slowly nodded. Adrian: Yes. Maya: You promised you would never leave me. Adrian: I kept that promise. Maya looked down. Maya: But I don't remember everything. Adrian: Some memories were taken from you. Maya: By whom? Before Adrian could answer, a woman's voice echoed from the darkness. Mother: By me. Maya turned around. Her mother stepped into the clearing. Maya: You erased my memories? Mother: I had no choice. Maya: You had no right! Her mother lowered her eyes. Mother: I was trying to keep you alive. Maya: Everyone keeps saying they are protecting me, but nobody tells me the truth! Her mother stepped closer. Mother: Because the truth is dangerous. Maya: Then tell me anyway. Her mother looked at Adrian. Mother: Maya, you and Adrian were promised to each other before you were born. Maya's eyes widened. Maya: What? Adrian looked away. Maya: What does that mean? Mother: Your father and Adrian's father made an ancient agreement. Maya stared at Adrian. Maya: We were promised? Adrian: Maya... Maya stepped backward. Maya: Don't. She looked between Adrian and her mother. Maya: How many secrets are there? Before anyone could answer, a howl echoed through the forest. This time, dozens of wolves answered. Adrian's expression hardened. Adrian: They're coming. Maya looked toward the darkness. Her glowing mark became brighter. Then a familiar voice whispered from somewhere beyond the trees. Darius: The Guardian belongs to the Blood Moon Pack. Maya's eyes turned gold. And for the first time, she felt the wolf inside her awaken.
