Chapter 006

1126 Words
Serephine’s POV I stood before him, battered and barely able to support my own weight. His eyes scanned me with vicious disdain, before he reached toward Camden, spreading his fingers wide. Camden placed dark colored gloves into his palm . Alpha Chase locked his fingers around it and withdrew his hand. Then, he slid it over his hand like a second flesh, smoothing it down until it gripped his fingers and palms seamlessly. “Get down!” Alpha Chase’s voice thundered. My joints buckled, and I collapsed without hesitation. He marched over and towered above me. Carefully, his hand reached for my chin and tilted my head back. Forcing my gaze to meet his, he asked in a low growl, “Who sent you?” I stared at him through half-lidded eyes. Words formed in my mind, but my mouth felt too heavy to speak. I was aching all over; life seemed to zapping out of me with every fading second. “Vasper?” he persisted. Even through the leather, his fingers dug into my jaw. Jolts of searing pain sparked through my veins. Who was this Vasper? Why did everyone keep mentioning that name to me? My lips finally parted, and I spoke in a ghostly whisper. “I—don’t—know who that is,” I managed, the words stumbling out with the last of my energy. What I said mustn’t have been what he wanted to hear. He shoved me back, and I fell onto my side with a silent thud. As he turned his back to leave, I stretched my hands toward him, begging for help. “Hospital—” I wheezed, coughing up clots of blood. “I don’t want to—die.” Alpha Chase swirled back towards me in a flash. Looking down at me like an insect stuck under his boot, he roared. “You dare not die.” My eyes fluttered slowly. It felt like the time I had consumed poison, except this time, I was convinced nothing could save me. I was dying for real. At this point, dying seemed like the safer option, but the thought of dying as a worthless human— never to reincarnate again— made me cling to my last string of hope. “We should take her back to the hospital,” Camden’s voice echoed in the distance as I slowly drifted into the abyss. “Don’t. Let her heal herself,” Alpha Chase stopped him. I can’t heal myself, I desperately wanted to say, but I knew I’d be putting myself in even greater danger if I ever let that secret slip. “She is clearly wolfless,” Camden persisted. “She wouldn’t be going through this if she had a wolf,” The Alpha’s resolve remained ironclad. He didn’t flinch, despite hearing that. “Didn’t you want to find out why she’s in our territory? How will we know if she dies?” “Fine.” Alpha Chase succumbed reluctantly. “Get her treated. And warn Vera not to lay a finger on her without my permission.” “Noted.” Camden nodded. He turned to the guards at the entrance and barked an order at them. “Take her to the hospital!” Two guards dashed toward my numb body, sprawled on the ground, and hauled me back to the hospital. The same Doctor who had treated me earlier rushed into the room and began the treatment immediately. He picked up a syringe, squirting a few drops out before leaning toward my exposed upper arm. “Numbing cream,” the doctor said to the nurse beside him. She applied a cold substance to my skin. He pierced through my skin with the first needle, then followed up with another. Within a short time, I was drifting into sleep, just as I had been before… When I opened my eyes again, the cut on the left side of my face felt oddly tight and painful, as if it had been forcefully stitched back in place. I lifted my left hand carefully; the sight confirmed my fear—my wounds had been sewn shut. The door opened and the Doctor walked in. “Does the Alpha Know you are human and these cuts could kill you?” he asked, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his white coat. I shifted in the bed, glaring at him as if he had just blurted out something obscene. “I am not human. I’m just wolfless!” I snapped. “Is that the lie you used in getting in?” He pinned me with a knowing smile. “I am not human!” I fumed. He held his hands up in a gesture of surrender. “Okay, okay,” he said. “You are not human. I was only kidding.” Even after he said that, I didn’t blink. I kept glaring at him, feeling as though he had just blown my cover. “You aren’t human, but you are no different from one,” he said calmly. “You are wolfless, Serephine. If I were you I would tread carefully and be as submissive as I possible. You don’t want to end up dead before you bloom, do you?” I shook my head slowly. “Good. Then do as Vera says and stay out of trouble. You’ve been admitted twice in a span of just two days; that isn’t good for you.” I nodded quietly. “It would be best if you stayed here couple for a couple of days and recuperate fully. You might come back dead if you get dragged out the way you did the last time.” “I can’t die,” I whispered slowly. His face softened, and I could see him trying to hide a grin. “Are you immortal or what?” he asked with feigned curiosity. “I wish I were,” I sighed, before turning to face the window on my left. He exhaled softly. “I’ll let you be for now. Please, adhere to my advice and stay safe.” “I will.” I turned to look at him before he headed for the door. “I’m feeling generous today,” he said, turning to me with a subtle grin. “What would you like for dinner?” I shook my head. “You’re not hungry or—?” “I don’t want to die,” I said, my voice breaking in a raspy c***k. His face sank, shadowed by a look of despair. “I’ll get you dinner,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about being poisoned. This is a hospital, we save lives here; we don’t take them.”
