Chapter 005

763 Words
Chase’s POV “Vasper sent her, didn’t he?” I spun toward the door as soon as it opened and my Beta, Camden, walked in. Camden shook his head slowly. “She doesn’t even seem to know who he is.” I laughed hysterically. “And you believed her?” “She wasn’t lying.” “And how would you know that?” “Because I could tell from her eyes!” “Oh please, Camden. Just because you were lucky enough to predict a few things that turned out to be true doesn’t automatically make you a psychic.” I said, my tune turning deadly. “I know Vasper sent her. He’s the only one who knows about my condition aside from you and the pack doctor.” I fumed. “I’ve been able to hide it well and rule this great territory without a hassle. Until Vasper found out, and now a random servant is all up in my space? Isn’t this too precise to be a coincidence?” “Well, from the information I’ve gathered, the maid is new. It’s obvious she is clueless about the ‘no-contact’ decree.” “She’ll learn the hard way then,” I gritted. Just then, the courtroom’s door flung open and a guard dashed inside, panting. “Lady Vera…” he gasped. “She is in the yard attacking the maid that spilled herbs on Your Highness." “What?!” Camden gasped, taking a step forward. I lifted a hand. “Let her be. She’s only teaching the lowlife some boundaries.” “She is attacking her with a knife,” the guard added. “What?!” I almost screamed. “Why didn’t you say this earlier?!” I thundered. “I’m sorry, Your Highness.” “Camden, get the servant!” I growled. “Sure, Your Highness.”Camden bowed and headed toward the door. The guard who brought the news trailed behind him. “Vera.” I snarled. “How dare you ruin this for me?” A DAY AGO… I was on my way back from the beach house when I decided to stop by the kitchen for a glass of water. But upon opening the door, this little, red-haired servant slammed right into me, emptying the cup of whatever she was carrying onto me. As if that wasn’t enough, she grabbed my hand and began using her filthy garment to wipe it off. My body froze, overwhelmed by her touch after two years of no physical contact. At first, I thought the curse had been lifted because I didn’t feel the usual agonizing pain. But shortly after, the reaction ignited; my skin burned and the pain kicked in. Her touch stung more than anyone else’s; it was like liquid silver running through my veins. I had never felt so furious in my life. The only thing in my mind was to make her feel the same pain she had put me through, so I ordered her to be flogged fifty times. Even at that, I still wasn’t satisfied, so I asked them to starve her. You can imagine my surprise when I found out her food was poisoned. “What food?!” I yelled at the news bearer. The following morning, the guard who had given her the poisoned meal confessed; the food was for a servant on death row, but she had mistakenly eaten it. “Why did you give her a meal after I clearly stated that no one should?” “Forgive me, Your Highness!” The guard fell to his knees, bowing repeatedly as he pleaded for his life. “Lock him up!” I said to the other guard that was always on standby. “Yes Your Highness." BACK TO THE PRESENT. I looked up immediately when the door opened and Vera walked in. Her claws were buried in the short, red hair that looked nothing like the lengthy, shimmering locks from the day before. She pushed the battered girl in front of me. “Look what I brought you,” she smiled eerily. “ I bet she’d never come an inch close even if she were given every single dime in the world.” Camden soon joined us, his gaze straining on Vera with obvious dislike. I sprung up and strode toward Vera. A big grin was plastered on her face; she seemed proud of herself. When I reached her, I leaned down and let my wolf growl with primal rage. “Do not mess with her. She is mine to damage.”
