Nymera’s POV
The first time it happened, I thought I was just tired. The palace had been chaotic for days because of the upcoming coronation, and Kaelith barely had time to breathe anymore without someone dragging him into another meeting with the Elders. Even I had started helping more around the palace because guests would begin arriving soon.
So when dizziness suddenly hit me while I was carrying flower arrangements with some of the maids, I didn’t think much of it. I just stopped for a second and held the wall until the spinning stopped.
“Are you okay, Lady Nymera?” one of the maids asked nervously.
I nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
But I knew deep down that I wasn’t completely fine. For the past few days, my body had felt strange. I got tired too easily, certain smells suddenly made my stomach twist, and every morning I woke up feeling weak no matter how much sleep I got.
At first, I blamed stress. Then three days later, I threw up behind the palace kitchens.
I barely made it outside before emptying my stomach into the bushes while tears burned my eyes from how sudden it was. My breathing came out uneven as I stayed crouched there in embarrassment. My waist-length hair was touching the floor in the position I was in, so I pulled it up into a bun at the top of my head. The only time I usually put my hair up was when I was sick or on my monthly cycle
As I thought about my monthly cycle, a terrifying little thought already started forming in my head. I hurriedly walked back to my room and went to sit by my bed.
No way.
But the more I counted quietly to myself, the more real it started feeling. My cheeks burned immediately. The night we found out we were real mates, Kaelith and I had been overwhelmed by our feelings and we had gotten intimate. My breathing grew heavy as I thought about that passionate night we spent togther. I thought about the soft look in his dark eyes when he touched my face and the way his usually calm voice became rough while he whispered my name. We had stared deep into each other’s eyes as he thrust slowly and gently into me for the first time.
And afterwards, Kaelith had held me against his chest for almost an hour while talking quietly about the future like he could already see it clearly in his head.
“When I officially become Alpha,” he murmured that night while lazily tracing circles against my arm, “I’m stealing you completely.”
I remembered smiling so hard my cheeks hurt that night. Now, sitting alone in my room remembering it, my chest tightened painfully with emotion.
Could I really be pregnant? The thought terrified me. But somehow, it also made warmth spread through my chest too. A tiny secret piece of Kaelith was growing inside me.
“Oh Goddess,” I whispered while covering my face with both hands.
I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or panic. I didn’t even know who to teell. The next morning, I finally decided to tell daddy. Honestly, I almost changed my mind several times before reaching his office because I already knew how the conversation would go. When I entered his office, he immediately looked up from the documents in front of him.
“You look nervous,” he said instantly.
“I need to tell you something.”
That made him slowly lower the papers completely.
“What happened?”
I swallowed hard before sitting down across from him. Suddenly, I couldn’t even look him in the eyes properly anymore.
Daddy frowned slightly. “Nymera.”
“I think…” I stopped awkwardly.
“You think what?”
“I think I might be pregnant.”
Daddy stared at me so hard that I genuinely considered climbing out the nearest window and disappearing forever.
“You what?”
“I think I’m pregnant,” I repeated quietly while staring down at my hands. “I’ve been feeling sick and tired lately and…”
“Kaelith?”
I nodded slowly. Daddy leaned back heavily in his chair while rubbing one hand down his face. For a moment, neither of us spoke.
Then finally he sighed deeply. “Nymera…”
“I know, I’m sorry, daddy.”
“You are unmated.”
“I know.”
“He hasn’t publicly claimed you yet.”
“I know,” I repeated softly, already feeling guilty.
Daddy stood up suddenly and started pacing slowly across the room. He looked frustrated, stressed and worried all at once. He stopped pacing long enough to look at me properly.
“Does Kaelith know?” He asked me.
I shook my head. “Not yet.”
His eyebrows lifted immediately. “Why not?”
“I want to tell him during the coronation.”
Daddy stared at me like I had completely lost my mind. “During the coronation?”
I nodded shyly. “After he announces me as his mate.”
For a second, he just kept staring at me. Then slowly, some of the frustration in his face softened slightly. Because despite everything, he knew Kaelith loved me.
Daddy sighed quietly before sitting back down again. “Do you honestly believe he’ll be happy with this news?”
A small smile slipped onto my face before I could stop it. “Yes, daddy. I know Kaelith, he’ll be shocked at first, but he’ll be happy about it.”
Daddy shook his head like he thought I was being silly. Then finally his expression softened properly.
“Are you happy about this?” he asked softly.
I touched my stomach unconsciously before nodding slowly. “I think I am.”
Daddy stayed silent for a moment before exhaling deeply again.
“I should be angrier than this.”
That made me laugh softly.
He pointed at me immediately. “Don’t laugh. This is serious.”
“I know.”
“If you truly are pregnant, things are going to change very quickly.”
My smile faded slightly then. “Do you think Kaelith will be upset?”
Daddy looked genuinely offended by the question. “That boy worships the ground you walk on.”
My cheeks warmed instantly.
“He’ll probably faint dramatically before recovering and carrying you around the palace like you’re fragile glass.”
I laughed harder this time. “He would not.”
Daddy shook his head before finally reaching across the desk to squeeze my hand gently.
“Just be careful,” he said quietly.
I nodded softly and walked around the desk, before throwing my arms around my dad in a hug. And for the first time since the sickness started, the fear inside me eased a little. Because no matter what happened next week, I truly believed Kaelith would be happy. I h
ad no idea my entire world was already beginning to fall apart.
