Roman
As I approached the location of my Beta and my mate, I could hear Thomas ordering my warriors to search around for any sign of their Luna. I picked up my pace, he just told me he had found her. I jumped down into a riverbed where my warriors were. Everyone halted in their tracks at my presence looking rather confused and a bit lost. I looked around but I didn’t see my mate anywhere. I could only just smell her, but it was very faint. I sucked in as much of it as I could with hope that her divine sent would calm my racing heart. It did the opposite because she wasn’t here. I approached Thomas unsure on how to read his facial expression.
“Where is she Thomas?!” I was quickly getting agitated. Thomas had a hard time meeting my eyes. Then he gestured to an empty spot on the ground.
“She was just here, I swear. I was about to help her because she was clearly very injured and unable to get up.” Thomas explained and my chest constricted. I hated the thought of her being hurt so badly. I stayed silent waiting for Thomas to get to the end of his explanation.
“Out of nowhere a huge ball of light appeared blinding us all. It was only there for a matter of seconds. Then as fast as it appeared it was gone and so was our Luna. I’m sorry Alpha, I wish we could have found her sooner but we will find her again I promise. I have a feeling who took her.” Thomas let out a deep sigh.
I stood there clenching and unclenching my jaw and let what my Beta said settle in my mind. Lark was in a total uproar and I had to try and hold him back from killing anything or anyone on sight.
“Who took mate?! They will die the most painful way I can think of!”
My body was shaking, I was vibrating with energy and I felt as if I would explode. “Please Lark, let me stay in control you are in no state to take lead.” I tried coaxing. Slowly Lark moved to the back of my mind and not speaking a word, that was worrisome. I didn’t like Lark quiet, that wasn’t a good sign at all.
I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths then faced my warriors.
“Where do we begin Beta? Who do you think stole what’s mine?” I spoke very lowly and with a promise of violence.
“I believe we should start with the fairies, Alpha. But that’s not going to be an easy thing to do, we’ll need Gwen’s help. We can’t go after the vampires yet, they are smarter than these rogues and we’ll need a plan to maximize their death with little harm to our pack.”
“Fine.” I clipped and started our journey back home without another word. I didn’t know what to do with my mate just yet but that didn’t change that she was mine. As we all travelled I became unreasonably angry at my Beta for laying eyes on her before I could. I shouldn’t let that be my focus but I felt scattered.
“Beta, get up here.” I shouted and Thomas jogged up next to me.
“Yes Alpha?”
“You saw my mate, I want to know what she looked like. I want to know everything exactly as you saw it.” I felt maybe if he described her to a T I would be able to see her in my mind’s eye. Thomas paused for a moment.
“As we came to the riverbed I saw a small, frail figure on the ground. As we got closer to her we could see that she was wearing a large wet shirt. I could tell she had very long hair but the color was hard to see because it had lots of blood and dirt in it, maybe blonde? Her face was very swollen and bruised and a bit cut up. But she definitely had blue eyes that color stood out from the rest of her. But then that light appeared so I couldn’t get much else.”
Thomas walked silently next to me for a while as I didn’t ask another question.
“I should have been there, but I purposely stayed behind hoping to have more time to think about my predicament. I feel like I kept making mistakes and letting my emotions take over and it’s going to cost me a lot. I want to hurt you, I know I shouldn’t and none of this is your fault but these feelings are out of my control.
“Roman, that fact that you need your mate to keep you from slipping is exactly why you’re feeling the way you do. I have been preparing for these moments for a while. We all see you’ve been struggling with your humanity. We are all on your side and we have faith everything will work out.”
“I’m not so sure Thomas, things are already not ideal even if she wasn’t stolen from me.”
“You aren’t going to reject her are you Alpha? After everything? Thomas whisper shouted.
“I know I need to have her close! That’s all! She wouldn’t feel the bond like I do. If I end up taking a chosen mate it only hurts me. She will stay in the kingdom and I’ll keep her safe but I really don’t think she can ever be Luna. How can the Goddess match up the strongest with the weakest and get a good outcome? Marking a human and then surviving has never been done! This whole thing is absolutely insane!” Thomas just stared at me like I grew three heads.
“You think you’re stronger than the bond?”Thomas chuckled. “I would love to see you try.” Then Thomas stopped walking, so he fell to the back of our group. Clearly not wanting to say anymore to me. Great now I was in an even shittier mood than before. Did he really not understand? I expected my Lycan to start up but he wasn’t speaking at all. But I could tell he heard everything and he definitely wasn’t on my side. I could practically feel his defiance and anger with me. Being at war with yourself is a losing battle. I wasn’t sure if I could fight it, even now I want her and I haven’t even met her yet. I need to keep a level head about this. One step at a time. I know that I need her with me but if I can’t mark her what am I going to do? First we see Gwen about finding the Faye people. Then we will know our next step.
