I am distinctly aware of being prodded. That with the searing pain that comes from somewhere near my ribs and the headache that throbs at the back of my skull. A groan passes my lips and then suddenly the feeling of someone standing over me makes my eyes flutter open and Esme’s big round eyes are staring down at me. It’s obvious she has been crying. “Holy s**t, you’re okay,” is the first thing she says to me that I take in. I watch her wild eyes look to someone and they come to the other side of my bed, the side that has been prodding me. “You’re in the school's infirmary, Nevaeh. You were in an accident.” I stiffen at the word accident and blink to clear the haze from my eyes. I can feel my contact lenses stuck to them, the dryness clawing at my eyeballs. “What?” I look at the woman
