I stared at Jace's text for so long my phone dimmed twice.
Jace: Did you get back to the dorms okay? It’s freezing out there.
My thumb hovered over the keyboard, my heart throwing a literal tantrum against my ribs. Was this real? I took a deep breath, trying to channel some of that quiet confidence I’d been practicing, and typed out a reply.
Violet: Yeah, just got back. Alive, but my face is officially frozen solid. Did you finish the power-play edits?
I didn't expect a fast response. He was the captain. He was busy. But a second later, the little grey bubbles popped up.
Jace: Just wrapped. Daniels approved them. Go to sleep, Vi. Big day tomorrow.
I smiled at my screen, a warm, fuzzy feeling completely erasing the chilly Vermont air in my room.
Violet: Goodnight, Jace.
