Life was strange, I thought as I tucked my hair behind my ears. The roads below were occupied with its daily hustle and bustle and I watched from the open window of the hospital room. We always thought we were in control. That we had it all figured out and things are going to run according to the way we want it to. But it does not. If it went even remotely according to plan then that would be surprising enough. I turned away from the fresh breeze that swirled into the room that was starting to feel suffocating. My gaze drifted along the squeaky clean tiles on the floor and wandered until they settled on the man still asleep on the bed. My heart squeezed thinking that he could have been wiped out and that would be all that life had for us. It would have been the end of the finish line
