The Escape

Sophia jumped into action immediately, she grabbed her small bag and left the room as quietly as possible. “At least my stepmother isn’t home. I should be able to make a silent getaway.” Tiptoeing around the house, she went through the garden to access the back gate. Immediately she stepped out of the compound, she started running. She ran as fast as she could and as soon as she could get a cab, she got one. Giving the cab man the location of her mother’s grave, she started feeling weak. Remembering that she hadn’t been able to take any painkillers, she decided she would get one as soon as she can. After arriving at the grave site, she paid and got down. She walked to and stood in front of her mother’s grave feeling really low. Looking at the write up on the tombstone that reads “Much loved wife of James Miller and mother to Sophia Miller. Forever treasured and forever remembered. How utterly untrue those words were. Her dad had mourned her for only two weeks before taking over her company and two months and some weeks after that he had gotten remarried to her stepmother who had made her life hell. Feeling weak, she sat by the grave and began to lament “Mom, how I wish you were still alive, how I wish you were here with me. I miss you so much. But I promise with the tears falling down my face right now and with the ache in my heart, I will make sure I avenge how I was treated in your absence. I will become so successful that I won’t be overlooked by my father and his wife. And I will make sure I get back your company from them both. In the far distance, in front of another grave stood a woman whose physical appearance looked really influential judging by the status of the cars parked around her and the amount of bodyguards around her. She was definitely someone from a big family. She was staring at a grave looking very somber. She definitely looked like she was missing someone. After a few minutes, she removed her sunglass and cleaned tears from her eyes. As she moved towards the car, she noticed a lonesome figure in the distance and became interested. Calling her bodyguard with a crook of her finger, she said “Do you notice that person in the distance, she looks lonely on the floor. Go and bring her to me”. As the bodyguard left, the woman started thinking about her life, she couldn’t believe she was a widow so early in her life. She had lost her husband to the cold hands of death in an accident that had almost taken her first son’s life too two years ago. The accident was orchestrated by the enemies of the family business as they were big names in the country. Since then her son had taken over but the void was still in her life. The approach of the bodyguard and the young lady jolted her out of her reverie. Snapping into attention, she turned towards them. “Hello young lady” “Hi ma. I was told you wanted to see me.” “Yes, I saw you in the distance crouched on the floor and I was wondering if you were okay. You look a little pale.” “I’m okay ma. Thanks for your concern ma. I was just about to start leaving.” “Okay if you say so. I was also leaving. Do you need a ride since we’re quite far from town.” Feeling happy about the offer as she could save the money for cab. She replied the woman “I would love a ride thank you ma. I just need to get my luggage.” “Okay. We’ll wait for you.” Sophia thanked the woman and hurried to get her bag. As she was returning, she started to feel weaker, a few steps from the car, she lurched forward and fell to the ground. The woman seeing what had happened rushed forward to help her and saw that she had fainted. The woman with the help of her bodyguards carried her and helped her into the car. *********** As Sophia came to, her eyes felt groggy and she experienced a range of physical sensations. Her head was pounding and as she put her hands up to massage it, she noticed that one of her hands was attached to an IV drip. Shifting her position into a seating one, she examined the room she was in. The room was totally unfamiliar to her. She was definitely in a mansion judging from the opulence of the room. She noticed her dizziness had receded but she was feeling nauseous. She remembered she had gone to get her bag to hitch a ride with that woman when she fell forward. “Oh right, that kind woman was with me when I fainted. Maybe I’m in her house.” Looking around the room once more she was awed by the beauty. She had lived in a mansion all her life and so she wasn’t easily surprised by wealth but the wealth she could deduce from the size and details in the room was definitely on another level. Before she could continue her musings, the room door suddenly opened and a young woman dressed in a nurse attire walked in with a tray of food.“ “Oh good, you’re awake. I knew you’d be up soon and so I went to get you food. I am Lydia by the way.” The young woman introduced herself. “I’m Sophia. Thank you for taking care of me. May I ask what happened to me.” Dropping the tray of food on a nearby table, Lydia responded “Well, I was called by the madam to come and see to you as you had come in unconscious and pale. Don’t worry though, you were only slightly malnourished and dehydrated so I had passed an IV drip into you. Now you have to eat. The madam would want to see you now that you’re awake.” “Okay thank you for everything. Can I use the restroom first?” After using the restroom, Sophia ate the food. Remembering that she had ate nothing apart from the food her stepmother gave to her earlier that day and seeing as it was already nighttime, her lack of food had definitely contributed to her falling unconscious. As she stepped out of the room in search of her benefactor, she was awed once again by how beautiful the house was. “Wow, this house is more beautiful than I thought.” As she descended the stairs, she came upon the living room and saw the woman she had met earlier at the burial ground seated with a few other people. The woman upon sighting her beckoned to her and said “Oh good you’re awake. Lydia told me you were fine and eating before she left just now. How do you feel?” “I feel okay ma. Thank you so much ma. I can’t appreciate your help and kindness enough.” “That is okay. You don’t need to thank me.” Suddenly, the front door opened and the butler came to announce the arrival of someone. “Madam, first young master has arrived.” “Oh good.” Sophia turned around as the said young master walked in.
