- Eva’s P.O.V -
Monday.
The day I was going to start learning more about architecture in Jayden’s company.
I’m not going to lie; I was very excited. This is everything I could dream of and adding this to my CV would be amazing.
It’s the owner of the company that makes me worried.
My relationship with Jayden is far from professional and definitely not casual.
I mean… I was in the man’s house and we almost kissed…twice. Plus, our first encounters didn’t give us the best start.
I still consider him annoying and I will call him Mr. Annoying whenever he bothers me, but for now, I need to focus and make the best out of this opportunity.
We were at school and it was finally time for a lunch break and I could finally meet my friends.
“Hey guys.” I greeted them and only Jake greeted me back normally.
“What’s wrong?” I asked sitting next to Nikki.
“Why did you lie to us?” Nikki said.
“What?” I furrowed my eyebrows.
“Why did you lie about Jayden and you?” She asked again making herself clearer.
I was silent for a while as I had no idea what to say.
“What do you mean?” I failed to hide my nervousness and everyone at the table looked at me weirdly.
“On Friday, after the party, I called and you told me you were home but actually, you were with Jayden.” She said.
She was right, I lied to her and she caught me. But I couldn’t say the truth either.
“Nikki, I didn’t have a choice. He dragged me out and took me with him.” I explained.
“I don’t care that you were with him. I care that you lied to me and hurt others in the process.” She sounded mad but when she looked at Mason when she said her last words and seeing Mason feeling uncomfortable, I realized something was wrong.
“What do you mean? Who did I hurt?” I asked turning to Mason.
“No one.” He answered.
He got off the chair and stormed out of the cafeteria.
I stood up and followed him because I wanted to apologize, what I did was wrong, I went home with his brother.
“Mason.” I ran behind him.
“Mason, please.” I caught his arm trying to stop him and he did.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I shouldn’t have gone with your brother. That was very unethical of me and if something like that happened to me, I would be pissed too.” I apologized and I meant every word.
“Eva, I don’t care about that. Look, I didn’t want to reach this point with you but I have to tell you.” He started.
“Jayden…he’s bad okay? He makes every girl fall for him then when he gets bored, he treats her like a stranger. I saw how many girls ended up heartbroken because of him and now seeing him with you. It bothers me.” He explained what I already knew but at the same time, I chose to forget about all these things.
“I don’t want to watch you get hurt even though he claims he never will.” He continued.
“Mason, thank you. Don’t worry about me. Your brother and I have nothing going on between us, I promise. Friday, it just happened but that’s it. Nothing else.” I had my hands on his shoulders while I explained my situation with Jayden.
He nodded and smiled shortly.
I was about to go back to the cafeteria hoping to fix things with the others too but instead, I got a surprise.
“Eva, wait.” I heard Mason call me.
As I was turning, he pulled me closer to him, and suddenly, his lips were on mine.
His hand circled my back pulling me closer into his embrace, but my eyes were open. I couldn’t close them because it felt like if I did, I would be lying to him and myself.
After I gained control over myself again, I pushed Mason away.
“Mason, I’m sorry but- “I wanted to explain myself.
“No, wait. I shouldn’t have done this but Eva I like you, that’s part of the reason why seeing you with my brother pisses me off.” He spoke.
Mason likes me?
He’s a great guy, a gentleman, everything I could ever want in a guy, but with every thought of me being with him, I felt guilty.
I felt guilty because I would be using him to replace another guy.
“Mason, I like you too…but not in the way you want me to. I’m so sorry.” I apologized.
He shook his head with a smile on his face.
“You don’t have to be sorry, at least now I know I know that Jayden has already won.” He said.
“What? No that’s not true.” I did not agree with him.
“I’ll fight harder, that’s all.” He continued as if what I just said meant nothing.
“Mason, there is no fight to win,” I told him.
He looked at me then nodded.
“Let’s go back.” He said and I nodded following him.
- Jayden’s P.O.V -
I was a partner at Rutherford high, so I had business there from time to time, and that is exactly what I am doing now.
I was walking in to go to the principal’s office when I saw Mason and Eva talking so I approached them a little bit to hear what they were talking about.
“I don’t want to watch you get hurt even though he claims he never will.” He said and I rolled my eyes.
“Mason, thank you. Don’t worry about me. Your brother and I have nothing going on between us, I promise. Friday, it just happened but that’s it. Nothing else.” She said placing her hands on his shoulders.
So, nothing is going on between us, huh?
Okay, Eva.
We’ll see.
She was about to leave but Mason called her and kissed her which led me to clench my jaw.
Their kiss lasted for a while and I stood there looking at them as Mason pulled her even closer to him. I didn’t know why I was this bothered…angry actually.
It felt like I was losing what was mine.
I did not want to stand there and watch any more of this so I left to do what I was here in the first place.
Game on, Mason.
- Eva’s P.O.V -
It was finally time to go to the company and start with the internship. I took the location and drove there, when I arrived, I realized it was the same building I was in on Friday.
Jayden’s condo is above his company.
Smart.
I walked in and spotted the receptionist working behind her desk so I went to her.
“Hello, I’m Eva Joan. I’m here for the internship.” I explained.
She smiled at me and started typing on her computer to make sure of what I was saying. When my name popped up, she looked back at me and smiled again.
“I will guide you to Mr. Wright’s office. He will explain everything to you from there.” She told me while getting off of her chair and asked me to follow her.
We went up a couple of floors before we reached the architecture floor.
When the doors to the elevator opened, I was mesmerized. Everything was so well designed that it actually felt like a place made for architecture.
The lady got out and led me to a set of stairs which got us to a place filled with offices and we walked straight to one that read Mr. Jayden Wright on the wooden door.
She knocked on the door and opened it when she heard Jayden allowing her to come in.
When I went in, Jayden’s eyes immediately fell on me but he was rock solid serious, no emotions to be seen anywhere.
My eyes, however, followed a girl sitting in front of Jayden’s desk and she was looking at us with her legs crossed waiting for one of us to speak.
She was stunning, her legs perfectly tanned her hair had beautiful black locks her dark skin complimenting her hair color but her eyes, her eyes were so bright even brighter than mine.
I could admit I had a crush on her and was jealous of her beauty.
“Mr. Wright, this is Eva Joan. She’s here for the internship from Rutherford High.” The lady beside me explained.
Jayden did not say a word, he simply nodded once and she understood that she could leave, and she did.
“So you’re Eva Joan.” The stunning woman said standing up to greet me.
When she walked closer to me, I felt intimidated by her. She had expensive clothes on with simple jewelry wrapped around her.
I nodded.
“I’m Isabella.” She said holding out her hand for me to shake.
Isabella?
Her name was so familiar.
When I remembered who it was, I quickly glanced over at Jayden and saw him clenching his jaw before he went back to typing on his computer.
“Nice to meet you.” I shook her hand.
“Isabella, could you please leave us? I have to talk to the new intern.” Jayden said without bothering to stop working.
“Sure.” She said but before she left, she walked toward Jayden and kissed him on the cheek and he was still unphased.
I, on the other hand, looked away.
“See you later, Eva.” She said before leaving the room.
Her voice was so calm she could use it as a hypnosis method or relaxation technique.
As soon as Isabella left, Jayden stopped what he was doing and looked at me, and told me with a tilt from his chin to sit on the chair in front of his desk.
He did not say a word for a while, he just sat there looking at me with no emotions on his face.
I felt awkward, I did not know where to look.
“Are you gonna talk?” I decided to break the silence.
“Why did you kiss Mason?” he asked.
“Not exactly what I had in mind,” I said to myself realizing he saw us then he must have heard our conversation.
“Answer the question.” He said leaning back on his chair waiting for me.
“I didn’t kiss him. He was angry that I was with you on Friday so I apologized and when I was heading back to the cafeteria, he pulled me and kissed me.” I replied.
“Did you enjoy it?” he asked and a furrowed my eyebrows.
“No. I broke the kiss and told him I don’t think of him that way.” I replied again.
“What are these questions?” My eyebrows still close together.
“Why the f*ck would you say there is nothing between us?” he continued without answering my question.
“Is there something going on between us? We almost kissed but nothing happened.” I was starting to get annoyed with this conversation.
“So if I kiss you right now would you admit that you’re as attracted to me as I’m attracted to you?” he said and I was shocked.
Did he just…
“I told you, you’re not my type.” I decided to dodge what he said.
“I’m not your type? Really? That wasn’t the case on Friday when I pulled you close to me.” He was not seated anymore; he came out from behind his desk and stood in front of me so I did the same and stood up as well.
“That was in the moment, but that was it,” I spoke.
“Stop lying to yourself.” His voice was deep.
“You know what? I was right to call you Mr. Annoying because that’s exactly what you do. You annoy the living hell out of me.” I spat out.
At this point we were not having a conversation anymore, we were fighting.
“Oh really? I’m Mr. Annoying then. Okay, great. How annoying is this.” He sounded very mad.
“Wha- “
He slammed his lips on mine. His hand slid to my waist all the way around and pulled me closer and my hand wrapped around his neck to lower him a little bit to reach my level.
This is what I didn’t feel with Mason…attraction.
We kissed and only stopped to catch our breath before our lips hugged each other once again.
Jayden slowly started walking until my back hit the wall and his hands were back on my waist before we broke the kiss.
My chest was rising as we both calmed down after our kiss.
“You’re mine, Eva Joan.” He whispered.
