JAMES
"Stop it! The two of you." Eve interjected with a higher pitch. She was obviously infuriated just from the expression on her face alone. And like obedient children we went mute. She then heaved a light sigh rubbing her forehead in a frantic manner.
"The fate of the contestants lies on us right now whether we like it or not. I know we're scared, frustrated, angry, sad, but that doesn't mean we should let these emotions get to our goal. James is right, the moment we decided to take this mission, we knew the risks but that doesn't mean we're going to let any of us die." She paused and then placed her hand on Dave's shoulder.
"I promise you Dave, we will make sure nothing is going to happen to you. And if anything does by chance," She paused, giving me a brief stare. "We're going to go down together." She added and I frowned slightly but I quickly shook that expression. I didn't want Dave to break out of Eve's inspiring words.
"You're right." He said while he nodded. "So what's the plan?" He turned to me. I stared at Eve and back at him while a tiny smile dawned on my lips. My eyes darted to the door and my smile grew deeper.
Dave barged into the room as planned, howling like a mad man.
"Hey! What are you doing here?!" I heard one of the guard query but Dave scoffed, mocking them.
"I think he's one of the Contestants, get him!" Another thick voice quoted.
"Try and catch me if you can!" Dave blared and dashed out of the room. Eve and I watched in astonishment at how fast his legs swept past us. We were positioned at both sides of the door. Waiting for one or two of them to chase after Dave. And as expected two of them dashed past us, they didn't even notice our presence. I glanced at Eve and she nodded. Without further Ado, we aimed at them. I pulled the trigger with all the courage I had in me and it met one of them in the neck. Eve's bullet met the other in his left thigh. Both of them grunted and it only took a few seconds before they fell to the ground. The sedative would make them unconscious for at least six hours.
Dave stopped, smiling at us. But this wasn't the time to be relieved. We still had five more to clear out. Now it was time for stage two. The three of us nodded together and after a while we sauntered into the room. Dave was handcuffed while Eve and I held his arms with our masks on.
"You guys got him already." One of them said as he approached us.
"Yeah, even though he gave quite the trouble." I said while Dave scoffed.
"Hey," The guard held Dave's chin. "How the f**k did you get here?"
I stared at Dave, hoping he would not break.
"You really wanna know?" Dave scoffed. And I gulped down my saliva. Thank goodness he was still playing his part. All that was left was to strike when the time was right.
"Go f**k yourself." He spat against his mask.
"What did you just say?!" The guard growled while his grip tightened.
"You can punish him a little and return him back." I said, letting go of his arm. Eve left him too and the guard started to laugh sinisterly.
"I think we should teach this animal a lesson." Two of the guards joined him. Anger was quelling in me like wildfire as I watched them hit Dave. I looked around carefully, two of them were by our side and the remaining three were focused on Dave. I glanced at Eve and she nodded. Without further Ado, we made our move. I gripped my gun and I sharply turned to my right, pressing the trigger. He fell to the ground causing the others to stare at us.
"What are you guys doing?" They yelled but I didn't hesitate. My rage caused my fingers to move and I pressed the trigger. Gunning two of them down. Eve had also done likewise and Dave fell to the floor.
"Dave!" Eve and I yelled at the same time, running towards him.
"We did it…" He whispered with a smile while blood toured out of his nose.
"Yes, we did it." I smiled while Eve uncuffed him.
"Damn it, why do I have to be the one who suffers the injuries." He chuckled while I pulled him up.
"You guys need to hurry up!" Hugh pitched.
"We don't have much time left." He added.
"We know," Eve answered. "We're working on it."
I placed Dave's left arm across my neck so most of his weight leaned against me. We then stared at the door ahead.
"Have you accessed the door yet?" I asked.
"Working on it." Hugh replied and as we reached the door, the red indicator changed to green.
"Done!"
The door slowly slid open.
"Now remember, once you enter I won't get able to open the door. The only way out his using the emergency exit door in the power supply room." He said but the three of us had already entered without letting him finish.
We were immediately welcomed with bright white lights hanging from the ceilings. This was the first room in history that was ever this bright in the Arena. The room was small, a little larger than the rooms they trapped the contestants in. But there were several obvious things. I could start with the several thick wires connected around, the gentle sounds the generators made and the warmth that caressed my skin. The generators were big like Hugh had said, they were only a few inches taller than us. They stood firmly in the middle of the room, glued together.
"Okay are you guys seeing the generators?" Hugh asked.
"Yes." Eve and I affirmed at the same time while we kept our gaze on the white generators.
"Good, the EMP is the smallest generator amidst the four of them. It's the red one, do you see it?"
"Yes." I answered, staring at the red generator just beside the third white one.
This was the ticket to our freedom.
"Uh oh," Hugh said. "Looks like we have a major problem guys!"
