JAMES
They started raining bullets at the door but the door didn't bulge regardless. There was one obvious thing, any moment from now, that door was going to collapse.
"I did it!" Eve suddenly pitched but nothing changed. The lights were still there and then I remembered the back up generator Hugh talked about. He said it would kick in when two generators were down.
"Great!" I chirped. "You take my position, I'll activate the EMP." I told her and she quickly moved away from the generator. I went to the red one, staring at the red lever.
"Hugh, are you ready?!" I asked but no answer came forth.
"Hugh?! Hugh!!" I yelled but it was still nothing.
"What's wrong?" Eve asked.
"Hugh's not answering." I responded.
"What?! At a crucial time like this!" Dave yelled.
"Hugh I'm about to activate the EMP, are you ready?!" I said again but I still got no answer. Fear began to overwhelm me again. My body started shivering as if cold was taunting it. I looked at the scared expressions imprinted on their faces and at the door that was going to fall any moment from now. This was definitely not the time for Hugh to disappear. Everything we risked hard for was going to end up a total failure!
"Hugh!!"
HUGH
My heart was beating like it was going to explode, my fingers were constantly tapping on my laptop keyboards. And my eyes were wavering back and forth on the screen. We were in a major problem right now.
I couldn't track Mr. E and Solomon. The IT department had found out I hacked the power supply room. They had already sent guards to the location. Minutes from now they were going to break him and arrest them.
I stared at the footage in the power supply room. Eve was busy with the third one. In a minute or so, the third one would be turned off leaving the backup generator running.
I diverted my focus to the contestants compartment. From the looks of it, there were only a few guards guarding it. I hacked into that system shutting all access to the compartment. The cameras in each room were also cut off and when I was certain everything was perfect, I used the microphone by the side of the laptop. Whatever I was going to say, only the contestants would be able to hear it.
"Attention, this is Hugh Ackerman," I started, gently tapping the microphone. From the looks on some of the contestants' faces, I could tell they heard me.
"The Third Arena is going to witness a jailbreak few minutes from now. I advice that all contestants find their ways to escape as soon as possible. You all should better be prepared because this is not a hoax. I repeat, this is not a hoax!" I finished.
"I did it!" I heard Eve say. I heaved a sigh of relief. All that was left was to gain access to unlocking all the contestants' doors and the emergency exit door.
"Come on, Come on, Come on…" My fingers tapped on the desk in a restless manner as my screen displayed the process. It was at fifty nine percent and slowly progressing. I looked up the power supply footage and the door wasn't going to hold on any longer.
It progressed to sixty one percent and I wondered just how slow this process was going to take. There wasn't much time left!
The elevator behind me suddenly pinged open and my eyes closed. Realization dawned on me at that moment, I was busted.
"Freeze!!" The guards yelled with their guns aimed at me.
"Hugh, are you ready?!" James blared but I couldn't reply.
"Hugh?! Hugh!!" He yelled, I stared at my screen, which was displaying a seventy percent progress.
"s**t… I didn't think you would find me so soon, Gabriel." I donned a smug look as I turned to Mr. E, Solomon and his guards already positioned in a fierce stance. My arms were raised in the air while their guns aimed at several parts of my body.
"It's Mr. E, you bastard!" He growled.
"Arrest him." Solomon ordered but Mr. E held his right hand up, signalling them to stop.
"You don't need to be shy, Gabriel. There's only us and some lowly guarda around." I retorted and he walked towards me with anger gleaming in his eyes. He held me by the collar.
"You bastard!" He toned with gritted teeth. "You killed Grace right. You killed her!" He yelled and I laughed a devilish laugh. His grip tightened and before I could call Jack Robinson, he punched me across my stomach. I grunted, almost falling to the ground. He didn't even give me time to recover from the pain, he gave a blow across my jaw, causing blood to sputter out of my nose. With every wrenching punch and kicks he gave, the pain intensified. But no matter how much it scorched, I was going to endure it. It was the only way for the plan to work.
"Hugh I'm about to activate the EMP, are you ready?!" James blared but I couldn't answer, I was currently getting beat up to a pulp.
"You bastard!" He growled. "You think you can escape with this?! You think you can fight against us?!" He muttered with every kick he gave across my gut. "Your plan is going to fail Hugh! No matter how smart you think you are!"
I kept laughing even though it stung like crazy. And it enraged him further. The look in his eyes was enough to show he was losing his senses.
"Hugh!!" James yelled again. And my laughter intensified.
"What the f**k?" Solomon yelled but no one paid attention but Mr. E didn't pay any attention to him.
"I'm going to make you pay." He bellowed with eyes that burned like brimstone fire.
"Just what the hell are you planning Hugh?" Solomon said again, staring at the screen. Although I couldn't see his expression since I was on the floor, I was certain he was terrified.
"What?!" Mr. E blared, diverting his focus at Solomon.
"This…" Solomon's voice trailed off while I struggled to rise to my feet.
